Organizational Setting
The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), together with the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit GmbH (GIZ), with the support from the European Union (EU) to implement the project “PROMOVE Agribiz – Improving Rural Competitiveness in Nampula and Zambézia Provinces, Mozambique” with an overall objective of contributing to a sustainable, inclusive and broad-based economic growth and poverty reduction in the context of national food and nutrition security and climate change.
The project aims to achieve the overall objectives through (i) improving the food and nutrition security and resilience of smallholders and climate-smart and nutrition-sensitive agriculture, and (ii) enhancing rural competitiveness by improved participation of smallholders in economic activities, economic diversification, improved access to rural services and improved rural investment.
The project will ensure application of measures that contribute towards addressing micronutrients deficiencies and prevention of chronic malnutrition. Activities will not only focus on enhancing the production and availability of diversified food but also improve the dietary and nutritional practices of the families through social and behavioral change communication (SBCC) sessions.
The FAO aims to target the women of reproductive age with special focus on pregnant and lactating women targeting first 1000 days of life, combining the existing Mother Care Groups and FAO supported Farmer Field School participants from the community. The sessions will be conducted in the same community where a wide range of nutritionally important crops (cereals, legumes, nuts, fruits and vegetables including biofortified crops) and livestock (chicken and goat) have been promoted through Farmer Field School Approach along with home/school gardens.
To this end, FAO intends to recruit one District Nutritionist in each district of Alto Molócuè , Malema, Ribáue, Gurúè, Meconta in Zambezia province and Malema, Ribaue, Meconta, Mogovolas and Angoche of Nampula province to support the implementation of the nutrition and related activities in the selected communities.
Reporting Lines
The incumbents will work under the overall supervision of the Project Chief Technical Adviser, the direct supervision of the Hub Coordinators (Nametil, Alto Molocue and Mocuba); with overall technical supervision of the International Nutrition Specialist and direct technical supervision of National Nutrition Specialist
Technical Focus
The incumbent will support the implementation of the nutrition and related activities in the selected communities.
Tasks and responsibilities
• Map the communities and identify the community facilitators for the implementation of Nutrition SBCC activities.
• Organize training of community facilitators on Nutrition SBCC
• Organize community orientation sessions on nutrition in coordination with the district government institutions.
• Support Community Facilitators on organizing Nutrition SBCC sessions in the communities.
• Monitor/supervise the SBCC sessions.
• Coordinate with district technicians (FAO and government) for the effective implementation of home and school gardens
• Coordinate with Farmer Field Schools and ensure the production and consumption of diversified diet among the project beneficiaries.
• Support and participate in M&E activities at different stages of implementation.
• Collect action pictures, success stories from the field on home/school garden and nutritional practices.
• Prepare report with key achievements, challenges and lessons learned.
• Perform any other duties as required for the implementation of the project activities.
CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING
Minimum Requirements
• University degree in nutrition, Food Science, or any other closely related fields
• 1 to 3 years of relevant experience in implementing nutrition programmes
• Working knowledge of English

Selection Criteria
• Fluency in Portuguese will be considered an asset.
• Knowledge of any other local languages of Nampula and Zambezia provinces will be an advantage.
