What will you do?

  • Assist Head Cook with the preparation of meal ingredients, which includes washing, cleaning, peeling, cutting, and chopping fruit, vegetables, poultry, and meat.
  • Perform cleaning duties; Washing and appropriately storing all cooking appliances, instruments, utensils, cutting boards, and dishes.
  • Sweeping and mopping the kitchen floors as well as wiping down kitchen walls.
  • Assisting with the unloading of delivered food supplies.
  • Familiarity with food safety and hygiene regulations by ensuring food safety standards are met and followed
  • Receive and store food items according to safety and sanitation guidelines
  • Plate meals according to recipes and presentation standards
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and prioritize tasks effectively.
  • The ability to stand for extended periods.
  • Perform any other task assgned by the immediate supervisor.

Do you meet the minimum requirements?

Education:

  • Completion of secondary school with at least 2-3 year in food cooking experience or certificate/diploma or high education in catering.

Experience:

  • At least 2 years in catering experience or other related field,
  • training/courses is required in catering is added advantage.
  • Proven experience in cooking food and kitchens management.
  • A food handler’s license is an added value.

Language proficiency:

  • Somali language is a must & English is the official language of the duty station and an intermediate level of understanding is mandatory.

Are you competent for this job? Knowledge and skills desired:

  • Full knowledge of the Statutory Regulations contained in the Health & Safety Act.
  • Comprehensive understanding of Food Hygiene Regulations.
  • Experience of high-volume catering in a busy work place.
  • Fully conversant with various cooking methods like boiling, baking, roasting and steaming.
  • Detailed knowledge of seasoning and recipes.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and quality.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills

Terms and Conditions

Contract duration: 11 months, Non-renewable.
