Background information/Organizational Context
Under the supervision of a senior protection colleague, the intern will support the activities of the Protection team within the Office of the Special Envoy for the Central Mediterranean situation. The incumbent will contribute to the Office engagement on analysis of irregular movements and protection risks associated to dangerous journeys in the context of onward mixed movement, through support on analysis in the field of protection at sea, human trafficking and refugee protection.
The incumbent will provide functional and administrative support on protection related liaison, correspondence, monitoring, and reporting activities.
S/he may liaise externally with partners on correspondence and/or protection issues as guided by the supervisor.
The intern may also be asked to perform other protection-related activities in support of the office.
Duties and Responsibilities
• Assist in conducting research as required;
• Staying abreast of developments along the mixed movement routes and assist in developing monitoring reports;
• Assist in drafting reports, routine correspondence, updating relevant databases and compiling statistics within the Area of Responsibility;
• Provide editorial support to key documents as appropriate;
• Participate to key meetings, draft meeting minutes and trace the implementation of follow up actions;
• Perform any other duties as required;
Minimum qualifications required
• On-going studies or diploma in law, international relations, political science or related field
• Knowledge of English (mandatory), Arabic and French (desirable)
Eligibility
In order to be considered for an internship, candidates must meet the following eligibility criteria:
• Recent graduate (those persons who completed their studies within one year of applying) or current student in a graduate/undergraduate school programme from a university or higher education facility accredited by UNESCO; and
• Have completed at least two years of undergraduate studies in a field relevant or of interest to the work of the Organization.
Allowance
Interns who do not receive financial support from an outside party will receive an allowance to partially help to cover the cost of food, local transportation and living expenses.
