About DRC
The Danish Refugee Council (DRC) is a humanitarian, non-governmental and non-profit organization, founded in 1956, that works in more than 35 countries around the world. DRC is one of the largest protection actors in Kenya, actively coordinating and advocating for improving the protective environment for refugees and host communities. DRC implements Protection monitoring, Child Protection and GBV prevention and response programmes in its areas of operation to address protection issues faced by displaced and non-displaced at-risk groups and individuals. The programme also aims to identify and build synergies with DRC´s Economic Recovery sector to facilitate durable solutions and Humanitarian Disarmament & Peace Building activities to enhance to respond to the needs of communities affected by acute crisis as well as those in protracted displacement situations.
Overall purpose of the role:
The Information Management Coordinator is part of the Country Office support services team and provides support to the Kenya program field operations by training & advice, compliance control, and providing technical support to Kenya Program team for IT related issues. Additionally, the coordinator will conduct technical assessments during the recruitment of IT staff for both field and Country Office positions. The incumbent will be instrumental in elevating the capabilities of the Kenya program’s Information Management Office, establishing a Centre of Excellence for IT, and providing comprehensive support to end users.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Help Desk
- Function as the main point of contact for IT related issues in the use of computers, software and other communication equipment
- Troubleshoot/diagnose problems and react accordingly
- Advise and instruct staff (users) on IT best practices, internet and e-mail usage and appropriate course of action where problems are encountered
- Liaise with Regional IT Office on IT equipment that need repair/replacement
- Prepare an inventory schedule of all IT equipment and software in use
- Carry out simple and brief, on the job training for staff as required.
- Manage system resources
- Carry out computer audit trails
- Perform general repairs on some IT equipment and peripherals as needed
Database, Networking, Internet
- Monitor company WAN for problems
- Troubleshoot internet issues in liaison with the relevant ISP
- Install all new hardware, systems, and software for networks
- Install, configure, and maintain network services, equipment and devices.
- Support administration of servers and server clusters located at the Kenya Program offices
- Plan and support network and computing infrastructure
- Perform troubleshooting analysis of servers, workstations and associated systems
- Document network problems and resolution for future reference
- Monitor system performance and implement performance tuning
- Oversee software and network security
- Monitor bandwidth utilization amongst the users
Backup, Antivirus & Security
- Perform backups as scheduled and ensure data integrity
- Configure and update antivirus
- Manage user accounts, permissions, email, and anti-virus, anti-spam
- Maintain system backups
- Continually perform preventative maintenance
- Assist with system upgrades and rollouts
Support to end users & Reporting
- Perform preventive maintenance
- Train the users on basic IT skills and Dynamics 365
- Ensure proper management, continuity and proper resource utilization of project resources
- Prepare a comprehensive monthly report of the IT occurrences to the Head of support services
- Analysis of communication bills and implement the necessary controls in the Kenya Program offices
- Perform any other IT related assignment allocated within the Kenya Program teams
Experience and technical competencies:
- At least 5-years work experience working in an IT support environment in relevant field INGO or other agencies experience in Information Management.
- This position will require a demonstrated ability to achieve results in a demanding and fast paced environment.
- Knowledge of and competence in Microsoft operating system and office suite
- High level of hardware/software remote trouble shooting experience & quick in learning new systems
- Able to work under harsh and extreme conditions, good judgment and problem-solving skills
- Demonstrate a customer-focused, motivated and pro-active approach to work
- Proven ability to manage large varied workloads and deal constructively with stress and periods with long hours.
- Proven ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines and work with limited supervision.
- Excellent interpersonal skills & demonstrated ability to establish effective working relations between programs & support
- Ability to travel regularly within the Kenya Program field locations to support and monitor IT operations on the ground Problem solving and conflict resolution skills.
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology or other related field from a recognized institution
- Cisco network certifications
- Microsoft certifications preferred
Language:
- Excellent Communication skills in English and Swahili required

Conditions
- Contract: One-year contract with possibility of extension, subject to funding and performance. Salary and other conditions are offered in accordance with DRC’s Terms of Employment.
- Availability: August 2024
- Duty station: Nairobi with frequent travel to field locations
