JOB DESCRIPTION

Background

Organizational Context

UN Women, grounded in the vision of equality enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, works for the elimination of discrimination against women and girls; the empowerment of women; and the achievement of equality between women and men as partners and beneficiaries of development, human rights, humanitarian action and peace and security.

In Indonesia, UN Women works with government, civil society organizations (CSOs), academia, the media, the public and private sectors to address national priorities of gender equality and women’s empowerment. Placing the advancement of women’s rights at the centre of our work and aligning with UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (UNSDCF) 2021-2025, UN Women Indonesia focuses on (1) Inclusive human development through ending violence and discrimination against women and build women’s leadership to build sustainable peace (2) Advance value-added and transformative economy by supporting women’s economic empowerment (3) Gender-responsive approach to building climate resilience and disaster risk reduction (4) Using innovation and data to leverage gender responsive governance.

One of the key areas of concern is the economic empowerment of women. The programme ultimately contribute to the achievement of gender equality through enabling women’s labour force participation, entrepreneurship, economic empowerment and thus their full and equal participation in society. In 2010, UN Women and the UN Global Compact launched the Women’s Empowerment Principles (WEPs) which set of 7 principles that provide companies a roadmap to become more gender-responsive throughout their value chain. The WEPs is the only framework that encompasses gender equality at all organizational levels, beginning with leadership and providing guidance for the workplace, marketplace and community, underpinned by a strong emphasis on accountability and transparent reporting of progress. Based on the very strong foundation built through previous programmes, with continued support from The Government of Australia’s Department of Foreign and Trade (DFAT), the UN Women’s Asia-Pacific launch Gender Action Lab (GAL) which aims to further advance private sector and government action to accelerate gender-responsive business policies and practices in Asia-Pacific by strengthening, in particular, implementation efforts to contribute to closing the Private Sector and Government ‘Action Gap’ across the Asia and the Pacific, with a specific regional focus on ASEAN and especially in four priority countries, namely Indonesia, Philippines, and Malaysia and Cambodia. GAL will aim to incorporate an inclusive and creative problem-solving methodology to enable multi-stakeholder and innovative thinking around specific thematic areas to ideate and prototype new multi-stakeholder solutions. The key outcome is that more private sector companies in Asia – Pacific are implementing gender-responsive business practices and policies to enable more women to equitably lead and participate in the world of work.

Reporting to the Indonesia Programme Manager for Women’s Economic Empowerment and Sustainable Livelihoods with matrix supervision by Regional Programme Manager and Technical Advisor – Regional Women’s Economic Empowerment in Asia (P4), the Programme Analyst for Women’s Empowerment Principles is responsible for the coordination and implementation of the regional programme in coherence with private sector engagement and women’s economic empowerment programming at country level.
