Duties and Responsibilities
Organizational Unit: United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the leading global environmental authority that sets the global environmental agenda, promotes the coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development within the United Nations System and serves as an authoritative advocate for the global environment. UNEP’s mandate is to coordinate the development of environmental policy consensus by keeping the global environment under review and bringing emerging issues to the attention of governments and the international community for action. Located within the UN Environment’s Regional Office for Africa (ROA), ROA implements UNEP’s global programs in the region by initiating, coordinating and catalyzing regional and sub-regional cooperation and action in response to environmental concerns. Purpose: The primary purpose of the internship is to support the Chemicals and Waste Management SubProgram in its mission towards continuous sustainable and sound management of chemicals and waste in the environment. This encompasses assisting with and supporting various administrative, programmatic, analytical, and research assignments to enhance the capacity of the team in promoting sustainability practices as the Unit supports Member States in their various sustainability endeavors. Tasks: • Support the drafting of project reports, summaries, meeting notes, and action plans. • Support the project team in monitoring progress against the project plan and evaluating outcomes. • Support in the research on best practices and policies related to plastic circularity, focusing on Zimbabwe. • Assist with the organization of internal and external meetings and outreach events, developing necessary background materials, and report writing. • Assist in identifying key performance indicators and contribute to drafting progress and evaluation reports. • Support the day-to-day management and regular quality control of the project’s email address. • Support the SubProgram administratively, in project management, and information management as may guided • Support any other additional duties and responsibilities that may be assigned by the Supervisor.
Qualifications/special skills
Applicant must be a registered student – currently pursuing an undergraduate degree in either: – Environmental Sciences – International Relations – Law – Project Management – Public Relations – Political Science
