Job Purpose

 

Under the supervision of the group scientist, this position will provide engineering and electrical technical support that will contribute to the provision and maintenance of research facilities and specialist instrumentation within the C4 Rice Centre. Our mission is to design, build and make available advanced research tools that assist IRRI’s scientist study and probe plant function. Our vision is to make IRRI a world leader in plant phenomics, offering service-based solutions to scientists who require high-resolution, high-throughput physiology measurements.

This position will be recruited for assisting the management of the new Taiwan ICDF Cabin project. In addition, s/he will assist the data collection for the USDA-Feright and USAID – CRM projects. The objective of Capacity Building for Sustainable and Low-carbon Rice Innovations in Southeast Asia project (Cabin) is to enhance knowledge, capacity, and accelerate the sustainable low carbon rice production. This project includes five countries: Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Philippines, and Vietnam.

This position will be based at the IRRI Office in Hanoi Vietnam, and may only be filled by permanent citizens of Vietnam.

 

Roles and Responsibilities

 

  • Assist the project leader for the CABIN project management, M&E, and report
  • Support monitoring and collecting data for the related experiments, field trials, and demonstrations under the related projects
  • Coordinate with required IRRI services and supplies to ensure smooth implementation of experiments
  • Contribute to the writing of manuscripts for reports/publications as well as presentations/posters for national and international conferences
  • Assist in monitoring and evaluating research activities/tasks performed by research technicians and contract workers; provide guidance when necessary
  • Assist to develop and translate (Vietnamese – English) guidelines, training materials on and provide capacity building for the related technologies/ practices e.g. sustainable rice production, rice straw composting, etc.
  • Work closely with the project partners in project sites
  • Constantly communicate with internal and external project partners and collaborators to exchange conceptual ideas and to effectively gather feedback and research-related requirements for the advancement of the project
  • Constantly monitor, evaluate and provide recommendations to improve research activities/tasks performed by Research technicians and Researchers in order to maintain smooth conduct of field trials and experiments as well as to foster a productive working environment
  • Consolidate, evaluate and analyze research data gathered from the project trials
  • Prepare and submit updated of research outputs to the Scientist in a timely manner
  • Supervise and lead the maintenance of accurate data recording and update database for efficient storage and retrieval of information
  • Administer effective coordination and preparations of trainings by ensuring that the training materials, logistical arrangements and resource persons are appropriate to the defined objectives
  • Develop Standard Operating Procedures (SOP)

Qualifications

 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Agronomy or related field with minimum 4 years of relevant work experience

 

Skills Required

 

Mandatory

  • Good skills in MS Office
  • Experience in data collection for analysis and report writing

Preferred

  • Has experience in project management, organization/ facilitation of the science workshop, farmer field days, and capacity building
