Portfolio Officer, Prospect Strategies – GL C – Temporary until December 2025

The Global Fund’s Private Sector Engagement Department (PSED) principal goal is the mobilization of financial resources for the Global Fund. It does this by building funding partnerships with UHNIW Foundations and Companies.

In order to be effective in raising funds and to ensure that funds can be effectively deployed PSED works closely with the technical and grant management teams in the Global Fund to develop products, topical themes and other potential funding opportunities.

PSED identifies prospects for specific areas and within specific industries and develops strategies to engage and mobilized greater interest in supporting the Global Fund’s agenda. PSED also manages the existing pool of partners to not only retain funding for future Replenishments, but also nurture them as champions to engage other prospects.

This role will be responsible for supporting the Portfolio Manager, Prospect Strategies and PSE team in the development of prospect strategies. This will include undertaking sector or prospect group research. It will also include tracking the implementation of strategies and support the revision based on active learning. This role will support the manager in the planning, logistics and coordination of. Lastly, the role will support the manager in the coordination of internal processes for the team, specifically those that support the partner engagement and management, such as the Private Sector Engagement Committee process.

Key Responsibilities

Reporting to the Portfolio Manager, Prospect Strategies:

  • Carry out market research and perform qualitative and quantitative industry analysis, and identify key trends on RM opportunities; propose and implement engagement strategies in collaboration with the Manager Prospect Strategies
  • Analyze and identify strategic opportunities for building cross industry alliances at country level and/or industry specific engagements at country, regional or global level
  • Independently draft concept notes and presentations for marketing activities and support outreach towards prospective donors
  • Support the creation of specific prospects and existing partner engagement strategies
  • Support the preparation of presentations, pitch books and other material for marketing activities. In doing so, perform disease and grant analysis in close collaboration with key stakeholders across the organization, setting up and managing consultation processes where needed. Develop briefings, screening and due diligence documents for prospective donors; Prepare partnership proposals and coordinate development of MOUs and contribution agreements with internal stakeholders (e.g. Legal, Country Teams)
  • Develop and maintain the mechanism for maintenance, tracking and reporting of the PSE RM pipeline
  • Develop communications materials, in collaboration with the Comms department, and the PSE team
  • Support the coordination of PSE Events and take part in key event working groups
  • Coordinate event logistics and processes such as invites, including developing and maintaining the PSE Contacts database, email and distribution lists
  • Support events setup and coordination of PSE and Senior Management attendance on the ground at key events such as Davos, UNGA, etc…
  • Provide, and coordinate for the PSE team as required, appropriate inputs for external communications purposes, such as results reports and external comms materials
  • Support the PSEC processes, coordinating the bi-monthly preparation for the meeting with relevant managers, tracking document preparation, amendments post meeting, minutes and implementation of action points as agreed
  • Support the Manager Prospect Strategies in managing a small number of PSE Relationships as required.

Qualifications

  • Advanced University degree (Masters level of equivalent); or,
  • Relevant first degree and at least 10 years of relevant post first-degree work experience.

Experience

Essential:

  • Four to six years of professional experience in the private sector or working with the private sector in fundraising, marketing or relationship management roles
  • Sales & marketing experience, with specific experience of developing relationship management strategies
  • Previous (philanthropic) fund-raising experience
  • Experience of events design and set-up coordination

Desirable:

  • Experience of Philanthropic, Foundation and/or HNWI market analysis, prospect engagement and strategy development
  • Expertise on development issues and understanding of development co-operation
  • Professional experience working in a developing country
  • Understanding of global health issues and the three diseases
  • Experience in grant development or loan management

Languages:

Fluency in written and spoken English is required. Additional languages would be an advantage.
