The Representative Office for Asia and the Pacific has an opportunity available for an Adviser to join the team in Hong Kong SAR.

Purpose of the job:

In this position, you will support the Chief Representative’s cooperative and engagement activities with central banks and other institutions and stakeholders in Asia and the Pacific. You will advise the Chief Representative on economic and financial market developments in the interest of the BIS and its member central banks in Asia and the Pacific.

Principal accountabilities:

  • Advise the Chief Representative for Asia and the Pacific on memos to BIS management providing views on macroeconomic and financial stability policies in the region, and support its drafting as required. Provide input to BIS papers, meeting notes and presentations, and writing speeches on relevant issues in the Asia-Pacific region as required.
  • Provide advice and analytical support to the Chief Representative on macroeconomic and financial issues through bilateral and group discussions, the preparation of briefing materials, including external presentations, speeches, talking points, etc.
  • Provide the business units of the Asian Office with economic and financial market analytical support as well as presentations when required for the Chief Representative’s engagements with central banks, media, and other stakeholders in the region.
  • As a member of the ACC and EME Secretariats, organise and engage with the membership counterparts, and provide high-quality analytical input for the ACC and EME Governors meetings, including the preparation of meeting documents, reports and · presentations.
  • Carry out policy analysis, research, and capacity building in the area of macroeconomics and financial stability in the region. In coordination with relevant internal stakeholders, lead cross-departmental projects of high priority to the BIS Asian Office on macro and financial market issues. Co-author the “Asia weekly” for the Chief Representative for the purpose of senior management meeting discussions.
  • Represent the BIS at international meetings, conferences, and central banking fora in the region related to macroeconomic and financial issues, with the delegation of the Chief Representative for Asia and the Pacific.
  • Provide analytical and organisational support for meetings with private sector, representatives of international organisations, academia, and other stakeholders, as well as for co-organised events/conferences.

Qualifications, skills, and experience:

  • PhD in economics or finance
  • A solid track record of economic and policy analysis and good knowledge of current policy and institutional issues of relevance to central banks, financial and regulatory authorities, and international financial organisations, particularly in Asia and the Pacific
  • Experience advising Heads/Chiefs of the economic and financial surveillance offices or mission leaders in central banks or major international financial organisations in Asia and the Pacific is strongly preferred
  • Demonstrated work experience gathered at a central bank or international financial organisation
  • Strong coordination and facilitation skills in cooperative activities
  • Good project management and organisation skills
  • Excellent writing and communication skills in English.
  • Multilingual skills for Asia and the Pacific are preferred
  • Strong ability to work under time constraints and meeting tight deadlines
  • Strong interpersonal skills
