Job Summary: 

The purpose of the Support Coordinator is to coordinate the support functions at Area Level of operations in the Area West (this including Area Office and when necessary, field offices, and to offload the Area Manager on support functions).  The following is a brief description of the role.

1- Generic responsibilities

  1. Line management for support staff such as Finance, HR & Admin, Logistics, and ICT
  2. Member of the Area Management Group
  3. Support Area Manager on Area Level in external representation, coordination and relationship building (networking)
  4. Compliance with and adherence to NRC policies, guidance and handbooks and donor/auditor requirements
  5. Provide input on operational support to Area Plan of Action, and to coordinate and align operational support with program plans at Area Level
  6. Responsible for ensuring quality support to project implementation.
  7. Responsible for ensuring proper budget planning and monitoring in the area.
  8. Assist Area Manager regarding Area Support Budget, including support costs for field offices.
  9. Responsible for Implementation of new country specific technical SOPs, guidelines, and tools in Area (Admin/HR, Logistics/ICT, Finance) and support to Area Manager
  10. Responsible for technical capacity building of support staff (Admin/HR, Logistic/ICT and Finance)

2- Specific responsibilities 

These responsibilities shall be adapted to the particularities of the job location and context, phase of operation, strategic focus, and type of programme intervention. This section shall be revised whenever a new employee is hired or the context changes significantly.

  • Using NRC’s Performance Management tool [staff review system], review performance of staff under your direct supervision.
  • Report to the Area Manager on any violations of NRC’s personnel policies and code of conduct.
  • Establish a good working environment based on the NRC values.
  • Ensuring that NRC support staff adheres to NRC´s SOPs,  security rules and guidelines.
  • Management of staff reporting directly to the Support Coordinator.
  • Ensure, that all recruitments and procurements are executed in line with NRC guidelines, rules and procedures.
  • Ensure proper hand over to new Support Coordinator, this including: handover report, induction on all NRC process and reports, introductions towards local authorities and other stakeholders.

1. Professional competencies

These are skills, knowledge and experience that are important for effective performance.

  • Experience working at Coordinator level in a humanitarian/recovery context.
  • Previous experience working in the United Nations or INGOs, especially in support systems is desirable.
  • Previous experience from working in complex and volatile contexts.
  • Documented results related to the position’s responsibilities.
  • Hold a university or professional degree in finance, administration, logistics or HR. An MBA would be a plus
  • Good knowledge of Finance, Logistic and Human Resources management.
  • Knowledge about own leadership skills/profile.

Context/ Specific skills, knowledge, and experience: 

  • Knowledge of the context in the Northwest and Southwest is required.
  • Fluent in English Language and Working Knowledge of French is desirable.
  • Knowledge on NRC procedures is an asset but not essential.
