The Claims Assistant will be responsible for the following duties: – Manage the Claims and Property Survey Unit and ensures its effective and efficient operation. – Assist in the provision of administrative support to the Chief of the Section, the Chairperson of the Local Property Survey Board (LPSB), the Chairperson of the Claims Review Board (CRB), and act as Secretary of the LPSB, CRB, and as Alternate Secretary to the LCC. – Works as a team member in complaints with United Nations Rules and Regulations, Policies, Guidelines, Procedures, IPSAS, and best practices. – Provides accurate statistics and maintains the claims database and archive system; – Reviews and analyzes compensation claims, property survey and documentation received from other sources (Local Police, Contingents, staff members, technical sections, and/or third party claimants or their legal representatives), in connection with write-off, loss of or damage to property. – Processes compensation claims and property survey cases for the presentation to Claims Review Board and Property Survey Board through the Section Chief. – Prepares correspondence to claimants, lawyers, insurance companies and others. – Participates in claims and property survey for missions (on-site visits) within the area of operations, in order to verify discrepancies, contradictions in evidence, or to secure additional information as necessary. – Prepares and disseminates recommendations and approvals of LCRB, LPSB or Head of Mission or Sub-Delegate (Chief of Mission Support) to concerned parties for action of follow-up on actions to be taken. – Initiates the timely submission of Automobile Accident Loss Reports (AALR) to insurance representatives (Adjusters). – Screens, analyzes and processes write-off requests and prepare A, AW and SB write-off presentations for submission to Delegated Authority or Local Property Survey Board and submit and follow-up with the Headquarters Survey Board (HPSB). – Prepare documentation, briefings, and guidance documents for the Board of Survey, Local Claims Review Board, and Local Committee on Contracts. – Updates, review and prepare reports on the UMOJA Write-Off notifications, equipment and fixed assets modules and generate reports in UMOJA BI. – Prepare the semi-annual and annual property write-off financial and LPSB meeting reports. – Maintains proper CRB and LPSB archive system. – Initiates demand notes to 3rd parties liable for damages to property. – Performs other related administrative duties, as required. – Assists with the collection and analysis of data as well as preparation of data presentations and reports for information sharing, responding to queries, knowledge management, planning and decision-making. – Assists with visualizations and updating information material such as web pages or brochures.
Education
High school diploma or equivalent is required. Successful completion of both degree and non-degree programs in data analytics, business analytics or data science programs is an advantage
Job – Specific Qualification
Certification in UMOJA or Similar ERP (e.g. SAP) Business Intelligence is required. Certification in Property Management/Fixed Assets Management is desirable. Relevant training in Claims, Property Survey Board, and/or LCC basic or advanced is desirable. Knowledge in Property Management, Property Disposal, Property Control, Assets Management, Inventory Management, Project Management, or related fields is desirable.
Work Experience
At least eight (8) years of progressively responsible experience in claims, property survey, property management, legal or paralegal related function preferably in the United Nations or other international organization is required. Experience working with United Nations Rules, Regulations, Manuals and Policy is desirable. At least 2 years of experience in data analysis, report preparation and developing respective procedures and policy documents is desirable. Experience in handling various claims (including property, real estate, traffic accidents, injury, insurance); evaluation of damages/losses is desirable. 1 year or more of experience in data analytics or related area is desirable.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the position advertised, fluency in English Language oral and written is required. Knowledge of French and/or Arabic is desired.
