The details/definition of commercial services and public good services are seen in the First and Second Schedule of this Act respectively. This consultancy is required to formalize for SMA a dynamic Policy and Costing Model for these commercial services, as well as for public good. Being mindful of the fact that there is a world-wide direction to move towards free and unrestricted exchange of data due to the growing demand for weather, climate and water monitoring and prediction data to support essential services needed by all sectors of society, as they face issues such as climate change, increasing frequency and impact of extreme weather, and implications for food security .

It should be noted that in parallel, a consultancy is expected to seek to formalize the actual mechanisms and powers for SMA to “levy charges for the provision of any commercial services”, as per 6.(1) of the Meteorology Act.
