JOB SUMMARY:

Job Summary:

Develops, writes, and edits technical briefs, toolkits training materials and technical publications including case studies and other related documents. Integrates various sources of information into a uniform style and language easy to read for various audience. May assist with technical publishing. Assists in developing documentation for instructional, descriptive, reference and/or informational purposes. Coordinates the review, approval, and revision of technical briefs, case studies, publications, specifications, and forms. Works with initiators to rewrite, clarify or reconstruct controlled documents to FHI 360 and client specifications and ensures accuracy of technical content.

Accountabilities:

  • Reviews published materials and recommends revisions or changes in scope, format, and content.
  • Observes projects, developmental and experimental activities, and consults with technical teams, country leads and Technical Assistance (TA) partners to identify and document the linkages and anchor points between NTDs that are supported by the project and health systems strengthening and sustainability.
  • Perform desk review and examine project reports and documents, publications etc. to develop and disseminate an index/spreadsheet/catalog of all the Sustainability and HSS – related publications, presentations, blogs etc. that have been developed so far.
  • Identify promising sustainability initiatives and documents the experiences or examples of best practices, within the framework of the implementation of Act | West program, that can be disseminated, including the conditions or pre-requisites for their replication.
  • Facilitates validation activities for a list of sustainability practices prioritized for documentation with the assistance of subject matter experts.
  • Interviews personnel and reads related material to become familiar with the sustainability planning process, USAID framework and guidance for promoting sustainability and develop a documentation plan that includes a timeline, roles and contribution expected from designated country teams, technical assistance (TA) partners and implementing partners (IPs)
  • Conduct field visits during activity implementation and virtual consultations as required with a view to engaging with stakeholders in the field (countries), documenting best and promising sustainability initiatives.
  • Coordinate with the Act | West consortium partners to develop and disseminate emerging models, technical briefs and manuscripts to capitalize the experience of Act | West in specific health system strengthening areas.
  • Lead the compilation of information and data analysis for each documentation process via background research and interviews with Act | West leadership, TA partners, implementing partners, MOH/NTDP staffs, leadership of cross sector coordination mechanisms and other national stakeholders involved in sustainability planning processes.
  • Assists staff in the preparation, proofreading, editing, and assembling of publications.
  • Identify lessons learned, experiences and topics/subject matters for further research that can be incorporated into the Act | West learning agendas.
  • Provides oversight and management of the writing, editing, and production of sustainability related publications, cases studies, technical briefs series and other relevant documents that support the HSS component of Act | West program.
  • Serves as the final reader to ensure that new sustainability related publications support the FHI360 ’s research and programs and are in compliance with the FHI360 and USAID ’s editorial and ethical standards.
  • Coordinate with the Act | West Communication team in the promotion and dissemination of new sustainability-related documents that are developed.
  • Coordinate the technical preparation of sustainability-related webinars for country peer learning, sharing experiences using the results of the documentation process and liaise with the Act | West Communication team for the planning, promotion, and implementation of such webinars.
  • Collate the best practices identified through the documentation process of the different initiatives and propose strategies and activities for sharing best practices.
  • Provides support on technical writing by mentoring interns, new staff on writing skills, offering inhouse training on technical writing and facilitating week-long workshops (in-person and via a web-based platform) for international researchers and other partners about writing scientific journal articles.
  • Performs other duties assigned.

Supervision Given/Received:

  • Makes recommendations to management to provide solutions on sustainability knowledge sharing to meet internal and external needs of the Act | West program.
  • Provides guidance to department subject matter experts on writing good documentation practices.
  • Reports to Health System Strengthening Lead.

Education: **

Master’s Degree or its International Equivalent in social sciences, international development, education, public health, Technical Communication-related field, or Related Field,

Experience: **

  • Requires 8+ years of developing, writing, and editing materials for technical publications.
  • Requires a minimum of 5 years of curation and management of documentation and/or publication process.
  • Must be able to read, write and speak fluent English; and a working knowledge of French is required
  • Prior work in a government agency, multilateral organization, or non-governmental organization (NGO) is a plus.
  • Prior experience as a technical writer and documentation of good practices is a plus.
  • Experience in West Africa is preferred.

  • Ability to spend long hours looking at computer screen and doing repetitive work on a keyboard.
  • Ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to lift/move up to 5 lbs.

Technology to be Used:

  • Personal Computer/Laptop, Microsoft applications (i.e., Office 365, SharePoint, Skype/Zoom/Teams), cell phone/mobile technology, and standard office equipment.

Travel Requirements:

  • Less than 25%

The expected US Based hiring salary range for this role is listed below. Candidate FHI 360 pay ranges represent national averages that vary by geographic location. When determining an offer amount, FHI 360 factors in multiple considerations, including but not limited to: relevant years of experience and education possessed by the applicant, internal equity, business sector, and budget.

 

Base salary is only one component of our offer. FHI 360 contributes 12% of monthly base pay to a money purchase pension plan account. Additionally, all US based staff working full-time, which is calculated at 40 hours/week, receive 18 days of paid vacation per year, 12 sick days per year, and 11 holidays per year. Paid time off is reduced pro rata for employees working less than a full-time schedule.

 

US Based Hiring Salary Range: $100,000 – $150,000
