The JPA program at the World Bank is a highly competitive initiative. Specific Unit Description – AFWDE
The Western and Central Africa Development Effectiveness Unit (AFWDE) services the Region, providing timely, effective operational support and services to the Regional Vice President, the Operations & Strategy Director, Country Management Units (CMUs) and Global Practice teams. The Unit also liaises with Operations Managers in AFW country offices; and collaborates closely with the broader AFW Vice President (AFWVP) Front Office, CMUs, Global Practice Units, Regional Director offices and various corporate units as required.
The objective of the Development Effectiveness unit is to offer high quality advice across key stages of strategy formulation and program/project preparation and implementation; embed World Bank’s and Africa West and Central regional priorities into operations; and support the Region deliver impactful strategies and projects to its client countries. The Unit also manages the operational learning and knowledge sharing in support of regional staff.
Duties and Responsibilities
The Junior Professional Associate (JPA) will be a member of the AFWDE team, contributing to the unit’s core activities. Working closely with the unit’s Senior Operations Officers/Operations Advisors, the majority of the JPA’s time will be attributed to the quality assurance function that is the core service of the unit. This function will focus on providing advice, support and guidance to task teams at all stages of the project cycle, ensuring compliance with appropriate processing procedures and clearance requirements, as well as the changes introduced through the World Bank Evolution Roadmap and other reforms. Specific work assignments will evolve over time and the ideal candidate should have the flexibility to respond as required.

Selection Criteria
Working experience in a field related to the Bank’s work, e.g., infrastructure, human development, sustainable development, and governance, is a plus Project/program management or/and quality assurance experience; experience in M&E and/or communications is a plus Advertisement
Strong organizational, research, and oral presentation skills Proven ability to work in a team and intercultural environment, with minimal supervision Hands-on and action-oriented approach Computer skills (Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel); advanced skills on PowerPoint and data managing in Excel (including using pivot tables, formulas etc.) is a plus Excellent knowledge of written and spoken English is essential. Knowledge of French is a plus.
