Description

Duties and responsibilities:

LIVE AND ON-DEMAND WEBCAST ADMINISTRATION

Under the general supervision of the director of the Department of Press and Communication and direct supervision of the head of the Audio-Visual Production Section, the individual is responsible for the logistics and operation of official broadcasting transmissions of the Organization; and to supervise that the necessary configuration for each event is set up accordingly.

Responsibilities include:

– Planning and deployment of digital solutions and strategies to meet market standards and requirements when transmitting live and on-demand events of the Organization, the General Assembly, and other political bodies.

– Monitoring of live and on-demand streaming signals during webcast events to ensure an appropriate quality of transmission is delivered to internal and external audiences.

– Responsible for configuration and setup of encoder servers before and after live and on-demand transmissions.

– Supervise the upload, maintenance, update and dissemination of webcast video clips in the official webpage of the organization.

– Responsible to address viewer’s questions and concerns regarding virtual presentations and webcast events. Responsible for the delivery of standardized live and on-demand transmissions to outside and inside viewers.

– Train and coordinate substitutes for his absences.

 

AUDIO VISUAL HARDWARE AND EQUIPMENT SUPPORT

Under the general supervision of the director of the Department of Press and Communication and direct supervision of the head of the Audio-Visual Production Section, the individual will provide the Director and other areas of the Organization with technical expertise and recommendations in assessing new multi-media hardware, projects, and initiatives to support and enhance existing audio and video base systems.

Responsibilities include:

– Technical support and advice on audio visual computers, equipment, and components.

– Comprehensive monitoring and improvement of audio-visual hardware performance. Analysis and solution of multi-media hardware technical problems. Management reporting on multi-media hardware operations and problems and recommendations to improve performance.

– Installation, configuration, testing and troubleshooting for multi-media editing computers in both MAC and PC operating systems.

– Connection and integration of workstation computers and audio-visual hardware. Installation and integration of other multimedia hardware devices and accessories, such as DVD recorders, decks, mixers, switches, control consoles and others.

– Responsible for technical research on system updates to determine feasibility, cost, time, and compatibility with current systems.

 

AUDIO VISUAL SOFTWARE SUPPORT

Under the general supervision of the director of the Department of Press and Communication and direct supervision of the head of the Audio-Visual Production Section, the individual evaluates new broadcast and webcast software specifications and recommends the most efficient and cost-effective solutions according to the Organization’s requirements. Provides technical expertise on installation, configuration, tune-up and technical support of audio-visual software packages.

Responsibilities includes:

– Planning, design and specification for multi-media software installations and upgrades

– Loading and testing of multi-media software

– Configuration and parameterization of multi-media software packages

– Testing and troubleshooting multi-media software utilities, plug-ins, and add-ons

– Implementation of audio-visual hardware connectivity for installed multi-media software.

– Tune-up and adjustment of multi-media software for optimal operation on the broadcast and pos-production environment.

– Programming and implementation of multi-media software licenses control and maintenance.

 

RECORDING, EDITION AND DISSEMINATION OF AUDIO AND VIDEO PRODUCTS

Under the general supervision of the director of the Department of Press and Communication and direct supervision of the head of the Audio-Visual Production Section, the individual records, edits and disseminates audio and/or video products. These products may include institutional videos, “video news”, video messages, b-roll, and other audio-visual productions.

 

Education & Experience:

Essential: High school or technical/commercial training and 9 years of relevant experience in in similar positions and/or working with computer equipment, development of applications and installation and configuration of technical equipment OR advanced training and 7 years of relevant experience.

Desirable: Knowledge or willingness to learn the OAS mandates and priorities as related to the area of work and/or the dynamics of the Inter-American agenda and system

Computer Skills: Ability to effectively work using Microsoft Office (e.g. Outlook, Word, and Excel) and software applicable to the area of work.

Languages:

Essential – Proficient in at least two of the following languages: English, French, Portuguese, and Spanish (read, write and communicate). Language proficiency examination will be required.

Desirable – Working knowledge of the other two languages.

 

Personal Competencies: Client Orientation, Knowledge Sharing, Teamwork, Interpersonal Skills. Ability to clearly communicate in the languages required for the post.

Nevertheless, i) Any candidate, including staff member whose native language is one of those four languages shall only be required to demonstrate proficiency on an exam in one of the others; and (ii) Persons applying for G-1 and G-2 positions at Headquarters and G-3 driver/clerk positions in those Offices of the General Secretariat in the Member States where the language requirement unduly restricts the recruitment of otherwise qualified staff shall be exempt from this language proficiency requirement for as long as they occupy those positions. Subsequently, in order to be eligible to compete for a higher-level position, any staff member who has benefited from this exemption must demonstrate proficiency in a second official language of the Organization. (iii) A person selected as the best candidate may receive a fixed-term contract, which will be considered to have lapsed in case the person does not pass the required language examination within the 36 months following the appointment.

Please note that the mandatory retirement age for staff members at the General Secretariat of the OAS is 65 years.
