Junior Professional Associates – Program Description

The Junior Professionals Associate Program (JPA) offers an exceptional opportunity for recent graduates to embark on a professional journey, providing a three-year contract with valuable work experience within a diverse and dynamic environment and the potential of field work experience. The program is an excellent platform to sharpen your existing skills and to develop new ones, all while gaining a profound understanding of the challenges associated with reducing poverty and fostering shared prosperity on a livable planet.

EAWF1 (Finance, Competitiveness and Innovation GP, West Africa)

The FCI GP brings together financial sector and private sector development specialists. In engaging with client countries, we focus on the elements of an enabling environment in which financial sector, private sector and firm-level solutions exist in an integrated way to crowd in private sector resources, support the creation of markets, and accelerate equitable growth. The West Africa FCI team (EAWF1) designs and implements a portfolio of lending operations, as well as advisory services and high-quality analytical work. This is designed to support policymakers in a broad range of issues related to financial sector development, job and economic transformation, private sector development. The team covers 13 countries in the following country management units: Senegal, Cote d’Ivoire, Mali.

Duties and Responsibilities


* Conduct research and analytical tasks on technical, operational, country and sector issues, providing expert interpretation of information/data, identifying pertinent issues and recommending targeted actions/solutions.

* Contribute to the FCI policy dialogue on issues relating to investment, trade, private sector and/or financial sector development.

* Contribute to operational activities at all stages of the project cycle for Analytical, Advisory, and Lending Projects, including participation in the design and development of specific project components, and supporting the implementation of ongoing FCI projects/activities.

* Support the FCI team in the preparation of briefing material on country program/sector and project issues and follows up on portfolio issues.

* Produce technical notes, briefings, presentations, etc. as requested by Management.

  • Bachelors or (ideally) Master’s degree in Economics, Finance/Banking, or another related field.
  • Have at least 3 years of relevant work experience in private or financial sector development or closely related field.
  • Technical expertise in at least two of the following areas: financial inclusion and SME finance, business environment, SME development/ entrepreneurship, climate finance, climate-smart private sector, financial sector regulation, long-term finance/mobilizing private capital, as evidenced through reports and other outputs.
  • Proven ability to think conceptually and rapidly, analyze diverse information from varied sources, and write to a high standard.
  • Ability to collect and analyze complex and incomplete information, interpret data, synthesize issues, make connections across topics, and present into a cohesive picture.
  • Ability to problem-solve around new topics, identify major issues, and high-quality synthetic and analytical documents in a timely manner.
  • Ability to multi-task, work under tight deadlines, and handle conflicting demands or directions.
  • Enjoys working in a team-based environment.
  • Sufficient fluency is required in both English and French.
