JOB SUMMARY

 

Guinea-Bissau is one of the least developed countries in the world and ranks among the lowest on the Human Development Index (HDI):177 out 189 countries (BTI 2020). The country borders Senegal in the North, and Guinea-Conakry in the Southeast and has an estimated population of 1,584,791. Portuguese is the official language and Creole is the national language.

WHO country office in Guine Bissau is implementing the Programme Budget 2024-25 contributing to the vision that promotes “the universality of access to services at all levels of health, by promoting solidarity of all by guaranteeing the right to health and contributing to the financing of health care and ensure of equity in the distribution of resources and the utilization of services, the safeguarding of human dignity and the preservation of the physical and moral integrity of users and providers “. Following the approval of National Health Development Plan 2023-2028 WHO is expected to support its implementation aiming at accelerate the attainment of universal health care coverage leaving no one behind in Guinee -Bissau.

WHO’s functioning is guided by its Thirteenth General Programme of Work (GPW 13), 2019-2023 which focuses on the achievement of measurable impacts on people’s health at the country level. At the global level, the GPW13 aims at contributing to the triple billion targets as follows: 1) One billion more people are benefiting from universal health coverage, 2) One billion more people are better protected from health emergencies, 3) One billion more people are enjoying better health and well-being. In Guinea-Bissau, the WHO works to support the Government to contribute to the achievement of all the 3 billion targets as articulated in GPW13 in two ways: 1) The WHO leverages its leadership on global health to cooperate with the Government on health. This implies providing strategic direction to the Ministry of Public Health and, 2) providing support on policy advice and health systems strengthening

WHO Guiné Bissau is implementing a Project “Strengthening health financing capacities, with a focus on Maternal and Child Health” funded by European Union.
Project PIMI, aims contribute to greater access to and more equitable use of essential quality health services for the population of Guinea-Bissau, especially the most vulnerable groups, adolescent girls, women of reproductive age and children under 5 years of age. Has three deliverables, namely: Strengthened government health financing capacity and primary health care management; Data generated and tools to improve protection against financial risks and Improve maternal and child health procurement and supply systems

We are looking for 1 online volunteer to support in writing the report covering activities delivered by the project covering activities implemented in 2023 and 2024. The purpose of this assignment is produce a brief results-oriented report for the project.
The online volunteer is expected to:
– Compile information provided by WHO Guine Bissau and produce the Report
– Support insertion of adequate pictures in the document to enhance visibility
– Follow the organization’s guidelines and directives.
– Receive comments and feedback.

Candidates should have a strong command of Portuguese and proficiency in English or French and its subtleties. Strong writing skills and knowledge of grammatical rules are required. Familiarity with technical terms related to Public Health will be considered an asset.
