The Senior Manager – Proposal Development and Report Writing brings high-level analytical and critical thinking skills, excellent communication skills, deep appreciation of SCI’s strategic priorities, context, programming and donor priorities to lead on developing high-quality proposal submissions.

This position is responsible for developing and/or mobilising others to ensure proposal narratives, budgets and other submission requirements are prepared in a timely manner, in line with SC and donor requirements.

KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY :

Proposal Writing:

  • Lead the proposal development planning process, including analysis of funding calls, development and monitoring of proposal development plans, organizing proposal kick-off meetings, ensuring the engagement of the relevant teams and ensure timely submission of SCI proposal checklists and other assessments.
  • In collaboration with technical advisors and others, lead the development of high-quality narrative components for Concept Notes and Proposals, in line with SC Sri Lanka priorities and donor requirements.
  • Make informed and strategic decisions on the technical and contextual content included in the narrative.
  • Perform a principal role in consolidating technical narratives, budget and relevant annexures with the contributions from relevant technical, REALM, finance and other team members, partners and other stakeholders, ensuring their alignment to the purpose of the call/ opportunity; and edit and proofread content to ensure high-quality final proposal output.

Report Writing:

  • Co-lead project report kick-off meetings for complex donor reports, in collaboration with the Head of Awards and Project Managers.
  • Edit and quality check draft reports for language, grammar, and narrative flow, and ensure alignment with donor requirements, as well as cross-check narrative and budget documents for consistency and coherence.
  • Ensure cross-cutting issues are addressed and thematic areas are integrated into donor reports, according to SC’s quality standards and donor requirements.

General:

  • Contribute to team meetings and planning processes, internal initiatives, and reporting requirements.
  • Demonstrate leadership in relation to Save the Children policies and practices with respect to child safeguarding, bullying and harassment, code of conduct, equal opportunities and other relevant policies and procedures.
  • Prepare detailed monthly workplans, and succinct monthly reports of outputs achieved.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A Post Graduate Degree or Master’s Degree in Journalism, Social Science/International Development/Development Studies or other relevant field.

EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:

  • A minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in a similar capacity working for the international development sector.
  • Proven track record in writing winning concept notes and project proposals.
  • Proven experience writing for a variety of sectors, but one or more of the following would be an advantage: youth participation, education, climate change, food security, child protection, gender equity, disability inclusion
  • An excellent understanding of different donor proposal requirements.
  • Good research and analytical skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills including influencing and negotiation.
  • Ability to build relationships quickly with a wide range of people, both internally and externally
  • Strong planning, management and coordination skills, with the ability to organize a substantial workload comprised of complex, diverse tasks and responsibilities
  • Proficient understanding of the operational situation in Sri Lankan context.
  • Ability to present complex information concisely and compellingly.
  • Ability to work within tight deadlines and time pressure.
  • Excellent English language written and oral skills, as well as proficiency in Sinhala and or Tamil.
  • Excellent computer literacy (MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint)
  • A good understanding of the mandate of Save the Children, commitment to and understanding of child rights, the aims and principles of Save the Children, and its humanitarian standards such as Child Safeguarding and the Code of Conduct.
