Job Description

Are you passionate about making a difference in the lives of children and their families in Newman? As part of the Department of Social Services – Child and Parenting Services (CAPs), we have received funding for you to join our team of dedicated professionals, helping to maximise their impact on the lives of families.

54 reasons is Australia’s leading child rights organisation – no ordinary not-for-profit.

A place where your purpose matters. Proudly part of the Save the Children Australia Group and global movement, we’re here to make sure that children and young people have their rights met and thrive, in all their diversity.

With the child’s voice at the centre, we provide quality services to children and their caregivers, advocating with them so that children develop, learn, and are connected, safe and confident.

Our people are proudly local, reflective of the communities we serve – in every state and territory, and across regions, remote areas and capital cities.

It takes all types of personalities and talents to drive our organisation– yours included. We value a healthy work-life balance and ensure our people feel connected to each other and our impact. Learn from inspiring people and grow from a connection to our strong local and global networks.

From our programs to our support services – this is the place to realise your purpose.

A place to make a difference:

Here you’re empowered to make a difference in children’s lives by learning, sharing and collaborating to find new ways to solve problems.

In this part-time (4 days per week) maximum-term position (until 30 June 2026), you’ll provide support to families with escalating needs and requiring support for their children to thrive.

As part of our Newman team, you’ll report to our Team Leader.

You will make a difference by:

  • Providing early intervention and prevention services aimed at improving children’s development and wellbeing
  • Working collaboratively with local providers to offer holistic wraparound support to those in a parenting/carer role to improve the development outcomes of children
  • Engaging in community outreach and consultation to ensure services are tailored to the needs of local families

A place to feel valued:

You’re a skilled practitioner who is passionate about supporting families within a child centred, strengths-based framework.

You have a strong understanding of children’s development, parenting, family and domestic violence, and impact of trauma on children and their development.

Most importantly, you’re keenly aware of the additional impacts and barriers experienced by families, particularly Aboriginal families living in a remote community. We recognise your contribution and provide you the support to ensure you can bring your best, knowing here you have the space and opportunity to grow.

Bringing your best every day means:

  • Strong engagement skills with families
  • Innovative and creative thinking
  • Sound understanding of case management and child centred, family focused approaches
  • Demonstrated experience and understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and families
  • Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills
  • Program monitoring and evaluation skills
  • Current driver’s licence
