JOB DESCRIPTION

Job Summary

The duration of the internship is for three (3) months with a possibility of extension to six (6) months. This internship is UNPAID in person and full-time (35 hours per week), on the United Nations premise working arrangement from (New York, USA). This internship is designed to be full-time and in-person but can be adjusted based on the needs of the successful candidate to part-time (20 hours per week) and/or remote. Under the overall supervision of the Information Systems Officer, the intern will assist in reviewing existing interfaces, standard visuals, and reports, and help identify areas for improvement in product layout and system UI/UX. The intern will support the CPAS team and mission focal points in learning design and visualization best practices for reporting documents.

 

Requirements

To qualify for an internship with the United Nations Internship Programme, the following conditions must be met: Applicants at the time of application must meet one of the following requirements: (a) Be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or, (b) Be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s level or equivalent) No working experience is required to apply for the United Nations Internship Programme.

Your training, education, advance course work or skills should benefit the United Nations during your internship.

The field of study must be closely related to the type of internship you are applying for. Proficient in standard word processing and software applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint or similar; Be proficient in standard office automation equipment, scanner, printer, etc.). Have demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the United Nations Charter.

Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views • Applicants who are children or siblings of a staff member shall not be eligible to apply for an internship at the United Nations.

An appointment shall not be granted to a person who is the father, mother, son, daughter, brother, or sister, including step-parents, step-children, and step-siblings of a staff member.

Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat.

Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship.

Knowledge of an additional UN language is an asset. Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish are the official languages of the United Nations Secretariat.

Responsibilities

– Assist the Evaluation team in creating user-friendly design and visualization for regular reporting products.

– Support missions in identifying pain points and areas for improvement in the user interface, factsheets, and dashboards.

– Help update and improve training materials on the system

– Assist with the development of an upcoming eTraining module.

– Attend online conferences and meetings, and take meeting notes;

– Perform other duties as requested.
