To support Manager, Noncommunicable diseases Division (NDD), National Public Health Wing and the Chief Ophthalmologist at the National Department of Health (NDoH) on:
Support the implementation of the National Eye care plan 2024-2029.
Facilitating collaboration between different sectors to enhance the delivery of eye care services at national and sub-national level.
Organizing and overseeing training programs for eye care professionals, including ophthalmologists, optometrists, and support staffs.
Conducting monitoring and evaluations to ensure the effectiveness and efficiency of eye-care programs, and making necessary adjustments based on findings.
The prevalence of blindness among men and women aged 50 years and older in Papua New Guinea is 5.6%, the highest in the Western Pacific Region.
Approximately 90% of blindness and vision impairment in PNG is treatable or preventable. The National Eye care plan 2024-2029 outlines key priority areas of action for the next five years. The National Eye Care Coordinator will oversee coordinated implementation of the action areas outlines in the national plan.
Documented evidence of program implementation milestones and timelines being met (as outlined in the National Eye care plan).
Number of capacity building programs completed for trained eye care professionals across the country.
Increased number of eye care services provided, including surgeries, eye exams, distribution of corrective lenses, and expansion of eye care services to underserved and remote areas.
Regular and comprehensive monitoring and evaluation reports detailing progress of eye care programs and impact and outcomes of the implemented programs.
Essential: University degree in health sciences, public health or equivalent.
Desirable: Has completed any eye care related training.
Essential: Minimum three years’ work experience in eye care and public health program management.
Essential: Knowledge on planning and implementing eye care programs.
Skills on public health data management; promote coordination across stakeholders and; good communication skills.
Desirable: Knowledge and skills in public health programme planning and evaluation.
Essential: Expert Knowledge in English
