JOB DESCRIPTION

Job Summary
The intern will also contribute to develop and maintain a user-friendly, engaging and up-to-date website to help disseminate public information on climate, peace, and security at the United Nations.

Duties and Responsibilities: The intern will work under the supervision of the Political Affairs Officer in PMD’s Climate, Peace and Security Unit, and will be responsible for one or more of the following duties: • Attend conferences and meetings, take notes, and craft summary reports, minutes, notes, and outline follow-up actions; • Conduct research and policy analysis within the areas of Division’s interest, with a specific focus on climate, peace, and security; • Regularly monitor and report on political and security developments and humanitarian issues, including Security Council decisions, official Member State statements, and new initiatives/publications; • Assist in preparing reports, concept papers, policy documents, talking points, articles, presentations and other materials; • Assist in organizing events, both online and on-site, providing support for tasks associated with administration, coordination, and travel logistics; • Regularly update DPPA website and Dashboard on climate, peace and security. • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications/special skills
Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent).

Languages
For this internship, fluency in English (both oral and written) is required. Knowledge of another UN official language is an advantage (Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish are the official languages of the United Nations Secretariat).
