JOB DESCRIPTION

Responsibilities
Manage the day-to-day project implementation of UNITAC activities in Kenya specifically, support to the project on developing digital solutions and data for waste management. 1.Provides support for the development and implementation of the UNITAC project in Kenya • Undertakes empirical analysis, data mining and visualization, as assigned, including the partnership groups, in developing reports relevant to the Kenya project on data collection on solid waste generation. • Provides substantive and analytical support to relevant officers in preparing and positioning the UNITAC’s Kenya project to accelerate the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Kenya, including the drafting of reports, as well as analytical and position papers for possible use in the UNCT. • Keeps abreast of other emerging digital transformation projects in Kenya to optimize UNITAC’s analytical capacity to respond to local and national priorities. • Contributes substantively to the development and implementation of peer review and quality assurance mechanisms for UNITAC’s activities. 2. Assists in the development and expansion of partnerships, in Kenya including with government counter parts and other stakeholders. • Supports the UNITAC’s work in Kenya through outreach activities such as facilitating peer-to-peer engagement of the various UNITAC projects in selected countries.
• Communicates and coordinates with existing partners and helps form new partnerships with UN agencies, academia, the private sector, and governmental agencies to further the use of data science for development. • Communicates and coordinates with internal and external partners on data collection and project/research implementation. • Assists in developing and identifying opportunities to showcase project achievements in relevant platforms for its advancement. 3. Supports knowledge management and capacity development • In collaboration with ROAf assists in the sharing of best practices resulting from UNITAC Kenya project with UNCT. • Supports advocacy for knowledge sharing, inspiring others within the relevant networks in the country to contribute their expertise through internal and external platforms and tools. • Assists in the identification of good practices and lessons learned at the different levels of the UN System (national, regional and global) and share findings with the UNITAC team. • Provides substantive support for assigned thematic activities and knowledge-sharing forums and encourages others to participate. • Develop and organize workshops with relevant stakeholders. • Assists in draws upon other UN experiences in Kenya, lessons learned and knowledge networking to provide contributions to strategic planning processes of UNITAC. • Contributes to the collection and analysis of data and identification of trends or patterns and provides draft insights through graphs, charts, tables and reports using data visualization methods for data-driven planning, decision-making, presentation and reporting. • Documents requirements and background information used for data analysis.

Education
Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent degree) in public administration, communications, sustainable development, social sciences, education or related area is required. A first-level university degree in combination with two (2) additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree. Successful completion of both degree and non-degree programs in data analytics, business analytics or data science programs is desirable.
Work Experience
A minimum of two (2) years of progressively responsible experience in providing strategic support to partnerships, project/programme management, resource mobilization or development finance in the context of development cooperation or related area is required Experience in developing and implementing partnership engagement and mobilization strategies is required. Experience in analyzing and drafting reports is required. Experience in supporting knowledge management for partnership and resources mobilization is desirable. Experience in supporting programmes geared towards Development Financing of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) is desirable. Experience in teamwork, support mobilization and project coordination is desirable One (1) year or more of experience in data analytics or related area is desirable
Languages
English and French are the working knowledge of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised, Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another UN official language is desirable. NOTE: “Fluency equals a rating of “fluent” in all four areas (read, write, speak, understand) and “Knowledge of” equals a rating of “confident” in two of the four areas.
