POSITION SUMMARY

GGGI is seeking to hire an Analyst who will play an important role within the Climate Action and Inclusive Development (CAID) team as part of the Investment and Policy Solutions Division (IPSD) by contributing to current and future GGGI engagements with its member and partner countries, supporting them to analyse the green growth performance using the Green Growth Index and Simulation Tool. The Analyst will be responsible not only for the application but also for the further development of the Index and Tool by integrating new models and validating data and results using Python software and AI-based approaches. He/she will also contribute to the conduct of stakeholder dialogues and capacity building on the application of the Index and Tool in the GGGI Member and Partner Countries.

 

PURPOSE

The AI and Data Analyst will be responsible for, but not limited to:

  • Analyze data and develop models to enhance current institutional tools such as the Green Growth Index and Simulation Tool.
  • Support policymakers in using and updating the tools, ensuring skills development and effective knowledge transfer.
  • Oversee and conduct dialogues and consultations to ensure relevance and usefulness of tools and models.
  • Integrate AI and system dynamics models to improve the predictive capabilities and reliability of environmental modeling tools.

ENGAGEMENT

The Analyst will report to the GGPM Program Manager and will assist the Program Manager of the Green Growth Performance Measurement (GGPM) in delivering support to key stakeholders in Member and Partner Countries in close collaboration with GGGI Country Teams to apply the Green Growth Index and Simulation to measure performance in achieving sustainability targets such as the Sustainable Development Goals, Paris Climate Agreement, and Aichi Biodiversity Goals.

The Analyst will engage colleagues across Investment and Policy Solutions Division (IPSD) as well as country offices to develop and apply evidence-based tools and methods to support member and partner countries in measuring green growth performance.

DELIVERY

The Analyst is expected to support the development and application of the Simulation Tool:

  • Conduct research on relevant models and model parameters for green growth indicators relating to water use and waste, materials use, agriculture, forest, biodiversity and ecosystem, and other land use systems, including those related to the indicators of the Green Growth Index
  • Coordinate the integration of system dynamics and AI models for water and waste, agriculture, forest, biodiversity and ecosystem, and other land uses to other systems, including energy and transport, etc.
  • Support the conduct of consultations with the GGGI experts and external experts on models relevant to the Simulation Tool
  • Provide advice on the improvement of the online interface using Python for the Simulation Tool to show the results in formats that can be easily understood by policymakers
  • Review the description of the Phyton codes in terms of comprehensibility to allow transfer and replicability of the models by other researchers and modelers
  • Provide inputs to the knowledge products from the Simulation Tool

In addition, he/she will provide support to the work on the Green Growth Index, including:

  • Analyze data and information, assess results and draw conclusions, develop models, prepare and present results to internal and external stakeholders
  • Support the development of national or sub-national Green Growth Index for GGGI Member and Partner Countries and integration of the Green Growth Index into the Simulation Tool by identifying appropriate indicators for the different models
  • Support capacity building of policymakers in using and/or updating the national or sub-national Green Growth Index and Simulation Tool
  • Support the annual update of the global Green Growth Index and continue to improve it to show results at the global, regional, and country levels

REQUIREMENTS

QUALIFICATIONS

  • A Bachelor’s degree in informatics or computer science with relevant applications in environmental and quantitative analytical fields such as resource economics, agricultural economics, environmental resource management, climate science, etc. Master’s degree is highly advantageous.
  • Minimum of three (3) to five (5) years of relevant experience in using/developing models and applying them to address climate and sustainability issues.
  • Experience in modeling and comprehensive knowledge of the different types of models (system dynamics, agent-based model, etc.), preferably with a focus on water, waste, and sanitation.
  • Solid experience in programming using both R and/or Python software as well as AI-based approaches
  • Experience working with international organizations and/or research/academic institutions is highly desirable.
  • In-depth knowledge of GGGI’s Green Growth Index and Simulation Tool is highly desirable.
  • Ability to deliver robust mathematical or statistical models in a short period of time is important.
  • Fluency in English. Other relevant languages are assets.
