Background:

NRC has been active in Somalia since 2004 with four area offices in Kismayu, Mogadishu, Garowe and Hargeisa, providing protection and humanitarian assistance to refugees, internally displaced persons and returnees in Somaliland, Puntland, South Central and Jubbaland regions. NRC offers a comprehensive response for returnees and IDPs of high need, addressing their food security, livelihood, shelter, education, ICLA, and water, hygiene and sanitation needs and also responding to emergencies through NRC’s five core competences: Shelter, Education, Food Security and Livelihoods, WASH and Information, Counselling and Legal Assistance (ICLA).

In response to the ongoing emergency response, NRC is setting up a roster for programme roles that area office could use. We are seeking highly qualified, resilient, dynamic professionals to respond to the emergency and support affected communities.

Specific Responsibilities:

  1. Participate in the expansion, development, coordination and management of NRC’s Education projects in the designated region
  2. Break down the annual work plans into weekly, monthly and quarterly plans
  3. Monitor, evaluate and ensure that the project activities are consistent with plans and budget lines and NRC’s policy and standards
  4. Ensure timely procurement, development and distribution of training modules, educational materials, and equipment;
  5. Coordinate assessments, progress tracking, sensitization / mobilization and follow-up salient issues
  6. Ensure effective distribution and monitoring of school learning materials
  7. Actively support the capacity building of the Ministry of Education (MoE), Community Education Committees (CECs), Head Teachers, Teachers, Parents, Community Leaders and Merchants
  8. Promote, advocate for and implement community mobilization on the Right to Education for All (EFA), gender equal opportunities and rights of internally displaced persons (IDPs)

Skills & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in education, or a related field.
  • Minimum of three years of relevant working experience with at least 2 years with a humanitarian program.
  • Previous experience from working in complex and volatile contexts
  • Documented results related to the position’s responsibilities
  • Experience in capacity building, including training staff and partners.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to work in complex and volatile environments, with a strong sense of adaptability and resilience.
  • Proficiency in English (both written and spoken); knowledge of Somali is an advantage.
  • Strong report-writing skills and the ability to analyze and present data effectively.

Contract: Temporary, with deployment during emergencies as needed

N.B: This is a temporary assignment focused on emergency response. Selected candidates will be deployed as needed during emergencies with short-term employment contract.
