Job Profile

The position is to assist Project accountant for providing high quality, accurate and consistent financial support for the project. He/she will also support the financial and procurement operations to achieve its optimal usage and eventual reporting to WVL management and stakeholders. Moreover, the assistant accountant will ensure a smooth payment process and coordinate with project accountant in Financial operational procedures such as planning, implementing, monitoring, evaluation, Project closure and audit, etc. in line with WVL Policies and Procedure as well as Financial Manual (FM).

Major Responsibilities

  • Train and/or upgrade knowledge and skills of the Project staff on GAC Grant requirement and relevant WV accounting policies, procedures, methodologies and systems
  • Each transaction should be verified to ensure they are budgeted, allowable and within the grant requirement, before being processed.
  • Take initiative to verify the country of origin and screen suppliers to clear Block Party for all the purchases related to this project as per grant regulations
  • Assist project accountant to prepare Annual Budget Implementation plan for Field Activities.
  • Project spending status with analysis, updated regularly to Project team during the team discussion
  • Work closely with the Regional Finance and Finance Lead Resource Development – IRDM on day to day work related matters and reporting requirement
  • Monthly Ledger verification and necessary corrections done within the month before monthly accounts finalization

Required qualifications, experience & competencies

  • 3 years accounting experience in similar capacity with a Bachelor’s degree in Finance, or Part qualification from recognized accounting body (CA Sri Lanka, CIMA)
  • Knowledge and understanding of handling Grant/ donor funding under required regulatory environment
  • Good working Skills and manage stress
  • Work effectively with staff in a team-oriented environment with a positive, can-do attitude
  • Ability to Read, Write and speak in English, Sinhala and/or Tamil
  • The position is based in Field location and requires ability and willingness to travel domestically up to 25% of the time and occasional overseas travel
