Duties and Responsibilities
The UN Resident Coordinator System encompasses all organizations of the UN system dealing with operational activities for development, regardless of their formal presence in the country. The UN Resident Coordinator (UNRC) is the designated representative of the UN Secretary-General and leading the UN Country Team (UNCT) and assumes the overall responsibility for – and coordination of – the development activities of the UN system. The United Nations Resident Coordinator’s Office (UN RCO) in the UAE plays a vital role in supporting the country’s progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). As part of the UN’s strategic outreach efforts, the Outreach & Communications Intern will contribute to enhancing public awareness and engagement with UN initiatives in the UAE. The intern will be based in UAE and work remotely, reporting to Data Management & Youth Engagement Officer at the UN RCO in Abu Dhabi when needed. The purpose of this internship is to find a creative, innovative individuals to assist in designing and launching various outreach and communication products, and also supporting on various multilateral events. This internship will provide the successful candidate with exposure to the workings of a multilateral organization and a deeper understanding of the UN’s mandate to promote sustainable development. Responsibilities: The intern will support the Resident Coordinator Office in the following tasks: • Research Support: Conduct research on trends, best practices, and relevant topics to support the development of communication strategies and the UN UAE’s initiatives. • Content Creation: Draft and edit content in English and Arabic for various communication platforms, including social media, newsletters, and the UN UAE website. • Liaison and Outreach Coordination: Facilitate communication and collaboration with UN entities working in and with the UAE, and work with civil society networks, universities, and organizations to expand the reach of UN UAE’s messages and campaigns, ensuring coherence and consistency in outreach efforts. • Event Support: Provide logistical and strategic support for events, workshops, and public forums aimed at raising awareness about the work of the UN UAE. The Internship is for 6-months. The internship is UNPAID and will not attract any allowances or remuneration.
Qualifications/special skills
Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required. Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master’s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s or Ph.D. Programme. Preferred studies: Applicants must be enrolled in a graduate or final year of a bachelor’s degree program in Communications, Public Relations, International Relations, or a related field. Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations. Fluency in English and Arabic languages is required for this internship. Knowledge of another UN Language would be desirable.
