Job organizational context: The Education Specialist GJP is to be used in a Country Office (CO) where the Education Programme is a component of the Country Programme (or UNDAF). The Specialist reports to the Chief, Education who is at Level 5/4, or Education Manager who is at Level 4.
Purpose for the job: Under the guidance and general supervision of the Chief, Area Office (Level 5/4) as well as technical guidance from Chief Education (Level 5), the Specialist supports the development and planning of the Learning and Skills Development Programme and also takes the lead on the Education Cluster coordination in the West Area. This role is tasked with the management, implementation, monitoring, evaluation, and reporting of the progress of learning and skills development programmes/projects within the Country Programme in the West Area to manage five states within this region. The Specialist provides technical advice and managerial support throughout the programming processes and supervise the education officer(s) in the West Area by applying strong leadership and managerial skills, to facilitate the administration and achievement of results on education programmes/projects to improve learning outcomes and equitable and inclusive education, especially for children who are marginalized, disadvantaged and excluded in society.
The Specialist contributes to achievement of results according to plans, allocation, results based- management approaches and methodology (RBM), as well as UNICEF’s Strategic Plans, standards of performance, and accountability framework.

The following minimum requirements:
Education:
An advanced university degree in one of the following fields is required: education, economics, psychology, sociology, or another relevant technical field.
*A first level university degree (Bachelor’s) in a relevant technical field (education, economics, psychology, sociology, or another relevant technical field), in conjunction with seven (7) years of relevant work experience in education and/or other directly related technical field, may be taken in lieu of an advanced university degree.
Experience:
A minimum of five years of professional experience in Education programme planning, management, and/or research in education is required.
Experience in managing and guiding a team is required.
Relevant experience in a UN system agency or organization is considered as an asset.
Relevant experience in cluster coordination is considered as an asset.
Language Requirements: Fluency in English and Arabic is required. Knowledge of another official UN language (Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish) is an asset.
