OVERVIEW OF THE FUNCTIONS OF THE POST

The incumbent will work under the overall authority of the Assistant Director-General for Culture, the general supervision of the Director of the UNESCO World Heritage Centre, the direct supervision of the Deputy Director of the UNESCO World Heritage Centre and in close collaboration with the other members of the Culture|2030 Indicators team.
Internally, the incumbent will interact with relevant colleagues of the UNESCO World Heritage Centre, CLT/AO, CLT/EO and Programme Specialists of the relevant UNESCO Field Offices facilitating the implementation of the project (including the relevant pilots).
Externally, the incumbent shall notably be in contact with the Regional Experts from the UNESCO Culture|2030 Indicators Expert Facility, other international experts involved in the implementation of the project, the Field Offices and the representatives of the national and Local Authorities of the pilot countries and cities as applicable.
The incumbent may also provide support in liaising with the relevant National Commissions for UNESCO, Permanent Delegations and the Donors of the project as needed.

In particular, the incumbent shall:

Long Description

  • Contribute to the overall implementation of the Culture|2030 Indicators in coordination with the programme team and relevant stakeholders in view of implementation of the relevant pilots of the project in different countries/cities;
  • Support in managing correspondence, and follow up on the exchanges for implementation from initial inquiries to the finalization of agreement documents with implementing countries and cities;
  • Support knowledge management including data archiving, information, capacity building materials, and the Digital Data Bank;
  • Support administrative processes including contract creation and the contract management for the provision of services needed for the Culture|2030 Indicators, and follow up of payment requests and preliminary verification of deliverables; assist in monitoring the use of funds and preparation of reports to meet the reporting requirements of donors;
  • Consolidate and assist in the preparation of briefings, presentations, and speeches as needed and develop communication material including external and internal communication and updating of the relevant webpages of the Culture|2030 Indicators initiative;
  • Provide logistical support for the organization of expert meetings and workshops including workshops for the Culture|2030 Indicators implementation in countries and cities.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education

  • Completed secondary, technical or vocational school.

Work Experience

  • Minimum 3 years of relevant experience in project assistance, or administrative support tasks or related tasks.
  • Experience in supporting projects related to culture.

Skills and Competencies

  • Drafting and communication skills to prepare communication material and assist in preparing and consolidating speeches and briefings.
  • Good interpersonal skills, tact and diplomacy to be able to engage with a variety of partners internally and globally.
  • Good analytical skills to understand the technical subject matter, examine a variety of material and prepare and process documents.
  • Ability to work efficiently in a multi-cultural environment, with team spirit.
  • Good IT skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Internet, Outlook, etc.).

Languages

  • Excellent knowledge of English or French and good knowledge of the other.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS

Education

  • Degree or equivalent in urban planning, geography, or any culture related field or international relations, economics, information science or management.

Work Experience

  • Experience in supporting in drafting of reports and assisting in data collection and budget.
  • Experience in the UN system or international organization.

Languages

  • Knowledge of another/other official language(s) of UNESCO (Arabic, Chinese, Russian, Spanish).

UNESCO’s salaries consist of a basic salary and other benefits which may include if applicable: 30 days annual leave, family allowance, medical insurance, pension plan etc.

The approximate annual starting salary for this post is 39 422 Euro €.
