Work Location
Flexible. This internship is designed to be in person and full time for a duration of 6 months but can be adjusted to hybrid and part time (less than 34 hours) based on request by the successful candidate.

Duties and Responsibilities
UNODC Regional Office for Southeast Asia and the Pacific (ROSEAP) focuses on crime and drug challenges that are best addressed through a coordinated approach at the regional level. The Regional Programme is focused on six areas of work: Addressing the Drug Problem; Countering Transnational Organized Crime and Illicit Trafficking; Anti-Corruption; Terrorism Prevention; Criminal Justice; and Crisis Responses. Under the Global and Regional Programmes, one of the areas of UNODC’s technical assistance to the member states include providing up-to-date information, and most recent evidence-informed scientific recommendations to handle specific issues under the UNODC mandates, including crimes that affect the environment. To fulfil this, UNODC produces a wide variety of quality, high-impact advocacy materials, reports, publications, and studies capturing environmental crimes trends and issues, including waste trafficking, to inform policy makers and programme managers from countries in the region. The findings are communicated on social media to reach a broad audience, shared with experts during webinars and discussed with relevant stakeholders during regional events. The Intern reports to the Regional Coordinator of the Environment Team. The internships are UNPAID and full-time (40 hours, 5 days per week). The internships can be in person or remote. The intern will support the team in implementing the communication and visibility strategies of projects on crimes that affect the environment, including illegal trade in waste and wildlife trafficking. Tasks will include: – Create visibility products from existing templates, using Adobe suite and Canva (flyers, newsletters, backdrops, reports, graphics, publication layout); – Drafting and editing content for social media (X formerly Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn) and project webpage (web-stories, press releases); – Support the organization of webinars (concept note, coordination with speakers, social media dissemination, visuals, moderation) – Support the development of promotional videos to highlight the project’s achievements – Assist with updates to the team’s webpage; – Assist in planning the visibility and communication for special events and meetings; – Fulfil other duties as required.
Qualifications/special skills
• Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have recently completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in, or have recently completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent). • Be computer literate in standard software applications; • Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter; and • Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views. • Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required. • Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master’s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s or PH.D. Please note that you will have to provide an official certificate at a later stage. • Applicants should have good knowledge of standard software applications, especially MS Word, MS PowerPoint, MS Teams and Zoom. • Ability to draft news articles and/or social media posts is required. • Applicants should have good knowledge of graphic design software applications, such as Adobe InDesign and Canva. • Interest in environmental issues is desirable • Interest in transnational organized crime is desirable • Knowledge and/or familiarity with the Southeast Asia region is desirable.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship. Knowledge of an additional official UN language is an advantage. Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish are the official languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
