O PAM NA GUINE-BISSAU:

The World Food Programme (WFP) carries out a range of work in Guinea-Bissau, including support for health and nutrition, school feeding and rural development. We also provide technical assistance to the Government to help the country reduce undernutrition, increase access to education and improve food security monitoring.

OBJECTIVE OF THE INTERNSHIP PROGRAM

The aim of this special initiative is to increase equality between men and women in the labour market, responding to the large gender disparity in the organisation in general and the high unemployment rate in the country, especially among young graduates. In addition, the internship programme will enable WFP to train future qualified talent in relevant areas, in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals 5 and 8: Gender Equality, Decent Work and Economic Growth.

With this opportunity, students or recent graduates will be able to develop skills and receive guidance that will give them a competitive edge for future employment opportunities, growth and support in the humanitarian sector.

PURPOSE OF THE WORK

Contribute to the evidence base for vulnerability analysis and mapping that supports food security and nutrition policies and programs (e.g. needs assessment and situation analysis, program design, target selection, operational cost-effectiveness).

SUPERVISION

The intern will receive direct supervision from the WFP Chief of Program.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF INTERNSHIP PROJECT(S) /TASKS TO BE PERFORMED

• Contribute to the development of Research, Analysis and Monitoring (RAM) projects and activities, plans and processes, ensuring alignment with broader WFP policies and guidelines.
• Support the development of systems and instruments for monitoring and assessing food assistance needs, in accordance with innovative methodologies and best practices.
• Support the development of food security and vulnerability analyses and the preparation of timely reports on food needs assessment, in line with policies, processes and guidelines, in order to enable effective decision-making on the development of national strategy, policies and programmes.
• Assist in coordinating data collection and control systems, ensuring that rigorous quality standards are maintained.
• Perform other related tasks and duties as instructed.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

Education:

At the time of application, candidates must be in the final year of a bachelor’s degree or enrolled in a master’s degree or have completed their studies in the last 12 months, in Economics, Food Security, Statistics, Data Science, Public Health/Nutrition, Geography or another related field.

Languages :

• Fluency (level C) in Portuguese (language of the country of work)
• Intermediate level (level B) of French or English is an advantage
• Knowledge of local languages ​​is an advantage.

Experience:

• No previous experience is required

General knowledge and skills:

• Knowledge of computer applications for collecting, managing and disseminating information.
• Strong computer skills and knowledge and experience in using quantitative analysis techniques, interpretation and software including SPSS and Stata.
• Experience using ArcGIS and GPS will be advantageous;
• Effective organizational, interpersonal and communication skills.
• Ability to work with minimal supervision.
• High numerical capacity, with an innate ability to quickly analyze and interpret data and recommend improvements.
• Flexibility and ability to work to deadlines in sometimes stressful conditions.
• Ability to work individually and in a team as appropriate.
• Availability and willingness to travel, if necessary, to different areas of Guinea-Bissau.
• Problem-solving ability.
