O PAM NA GUINE-BISSAU:
The World Food Programme (WFP) carries out a range of work in Guinea-Bissau, including support for health and nutrition, school feeding and rural development. We also provide technical assistance to the Government to help the country reduce undernutrition, increase access to education and improve food security monitoring.
OBJECTIVE OF THE INTERNSHIP PROGRAM
The objective of the female internship program is to increase equality between men and women in the labor market, to address the large gender disparity in the organization in general and the high unemployment rate in the country, especially among young graduates. In addition, the internship program will allow WFP to train future qualified talent in relevant areas, in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals No. 5 and 8: Gender Equality, Decent Work and Economic Growth.
With this opportunity, students or recent graduates will be able to develop skills and receive guidance that will give them a competitive edge for future employment opportunities, growth and support in the humanitarian sector.
PURPOSE OF THE WORK
The School Canteen Program is the largest program of the WFP. Considering the great demand for extra activities generated by the purchase of local products, inclusion of people with disabilities, accumulation of internal processes linked to the Regional Office and the demand generated by the management of internal processes, the need for an intern to cover part of the activities and improve the flow of resolution of daily tasks always guided by the supervisor stands out.
The intern will also have 1) a great opportunity to gain practical work experience; 2) access to a wide range of online in-house training courses; and 3) regional networking and access to a wide range of operational examples at field level, in addition to specific monitoring training to function at its best.
SUPERVISION
The School Canteen Program Intern reports directly to the National Policy Officer for the School Canteen Program , under the direct supervision of the Program Chief.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF INTERNSHIP PROJECT(S) /TASKS TO BE PERFORMED
• Follow normal emergency preparedness practices to ensure that WFP can respond quickly and transfer necessary resources to affected areas at an early stage of the crisis.
• Support the collection, analysis and processing of data relating to the implementation of WFP food assistance, in collaboration with its partners.
• Support the monthly reconciliation of distribution data based on information on transfers by gender produced by logistics.
• Support the production and sharing of performance reports relevant to decision-making, reflection and strategic execution of the WFP program in the country.
• Support the development, updating and application of monitoring instruments adapted to the needs of the program and in accordance with the WFP minimum monitoring and evaluation standards.
• Support the repair of quarterly food distribution plans.
• Know and apply the monitoring instruments that allow supervising the effective execution of the processes of transferring and distributing food aid (in kind, cash and/or food vouchers).
• Propose improvements in the processes and procedures for monitoring food aid programs.
• Participate in training activities on monitoring and evaluation and in School Connect with partners.
• Perform all tasks assigned by the supervisor.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
Education:
At the time of application, candidates must be in the final year of a bachelor’s degree or enrolled in a master’s degree or have completed their studies in the last 12 months, in Business Administration, Economics, Social Sciences, Educational Sciences, Pedagogy, Management, International Relations or similar areas.
