Duties and Responsibilities
Org. Setting and Reporting This position is located in the Office of the Director (OD), United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA) in Vienna, Austria. The incumbent will work under the direct supervision of the Programme Management Officer, Partnerships, Office of Director UNOOSA . The Office of the Director (OD) is responsible for supporting the Office’s overall direction, administration and management, leading external relations and public information activities, overseeing coordination and cooperation with entities involved in space-related activities, the maintenance of the United Nations Register of Objects Launched into Outer Space and the implementation of assigned partnerships, initiatives and activities, among which World Space Forum, Space for Women, Space Economy, Space for Youth, Space for Climate Action, Promoting Space Sustainability and Enhancing International Expertise in Registration of Space Objects. The internship is UNPAID and interns work five days per week (full time – 40 hours). Assisting with the design and production of graphic solutions that support the UNOOSA’s strategic communications products using tools including but not limited to: Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Canva and other graphic design applications. 2. Participating in the full design workflow process, including: working with team members on concepts, storyboards and design drafts; receiving direction and acting on input from team leads and other senior stakeholders; working with section members on updates and content revisions; preparing finalized layouts for production and distribution across a variety of communication channels; and regrouping to discuss project successes and lessons learned. 3. Following all project work and ensure it adheres to UNOOSA branding and style guidelines, including accessibility guidelines. 4. Attending design team briefings and report on workflow and project statuses while taking an active role in project meetings with other team members. 5. Assisting with video editing and sound design for digital media projects. 6. Maintaining an awareness of trends and best practices in graphic design, communications and marketing, and share insights and input on design approaches used in marketing campaigns.
Qualifications/special skills
The basic education required is HS Diploma. Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent). Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work. experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required. • Be computer literate in standard software applications; proficiency in preparing spreadsheets; • Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter; and • Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship. Knowledge of an additional official UN language is an advantage. Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish are the official languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
