Danish Refugee Council (DRC) is a leading protection agency with a mandate to protect, advocate andpromote durable solutions for displacement affected populations.

DRC has been operating in Ukraine since 2014, currently DRC employs over 800 staff in Ukraine andwill continue significant scale-up in 2024 to implement emergency response in the Protection,Livelihoods, Shelter/NFIs and Humanitarian Disarmament and Peacebuilding (humanitarian mineaction) sectors, using direct interventions, support to duty bearers and civil society organizations(CSOs), and partnerships with CSOs. DRC will continue and adapt its durable solutions portfolio to theevolving context.

About the job

Danish Refugee Council is currently looking for an Explosive Ordnance Risk Education (EORE) Assistant based in Mykolaiv. The main objective of the work is to inform the population of the Southern Region (mainly Mykolaiv and Kherson oblasts) about the risks associated with mines and explosive remnants of war. This position will report to the EORE Supervisor.

Your main duties and responsibilities will be:

  • Participate in the development of activity workplans and follow them accordingly.
  • Comply with field coordination directions of EORE Team Leader and flag uncoordinated efforts tothem.
  • Actively participate in internal EORE team meetings and share pertinent updates.
  • Liaise with DRC HDP Humanitarian Demining, Non-Technical Survey, Victim Assistance, and otherDRC sectors to ensure an integrated approach.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge on the context, including Explosive Ordnance (EO) contamination.
  • Conduct direct and online EORE sessions for adults, adolescent, and children according to DRCHDP SOPs, using standard and approved methodologies.
  • As a Training Assistant, support EORE Training of Trainers (TOT) for local stakeholders.
  • Support to HMA workshops, events, and other such public events, organised by DRC.
  • Support Community Liaison (CL) with local communities.
  • Distribute EORE informational materials as instructed.
  • Assist the development of EORE (informational) materials, methodologies, and tools.
  • Use developed Information Management (IM) tools to share EORE activity data to DRC IM Teamand EORE Supervisor.
  • Upon request, support procurement efforts, including developing the required documentation.

About you

To be successful in the role of Explosive Ordnance Risk Education Assistant, we expect you to have minimum 1 year of experience in a humanitarian organization or an educational institution. Also we expect the following:

  • University degree in Education or Pedagogy or in other relevant field.
  • Experience working with children, adolescent, and adult audiences, public speaking capacity.
  • Fluency in Ukrainian and Russian languages.
  • Basic knowledge of English language will be an advantage.
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office package (with focus on Excel, Word, and PowerPoint).
