JOB DESCRIPTION

Result of Service
The incumbent will provide support to the GFC Secretariat in executing its additional needed functions during the transitional period from SAICM to GFC. The functions of the secretariat are listed in Section X.C of the Framework. These services will contribute to the achievement of reporting tasks and the early implementation of the GFC workplan.

Duties and Responsibilities
The consultant will fill the workload gap in the absence of a dedicated GFC communications specialist. The consultant will support the transition phase by developing a messaging plan that goes all the way to June 2025. The Responsibilities / Objectives: • Support the GFC’s transition to the UNEP webpage, specifically by writing new content and updating existing content. • Support the launch of the first round of applications for the GFC Fund through strategic content development to reach key stakeholders (i.e. news items, factsheets, website text, webinars etc.) • Support the content creation of communication products (e.g. brochures, factsheets, web and social media content, webinars etc.) aiming to highlight the strategic relevance of the GFC and the role of specific stakeholders (i.e. government, civil society, industry, finance sector, youth). • Develop written content about the GFC, to be integrated into UNEP’s Beat Pollution campaign. • Liaison with UNEP’s communication division to update GFC’s communication strategy and develop a quarterly messaging plan that goes until OEWG (June 2024) and includes milestones for each of the GFC’s workstreams. • Support the follow-up process of the SAICM knowledge platform. • Support the organization of webinars and events. • Conduct a stakeholder analysis of existing and new stakeholders and create a messaging strategy to engage with these stakeholders adequately throughout different business sectors.
Qualifications/special skills
A master’s degree in journalism, communications, publishing, public affairs or similar with corresponding demonstrated experience is required. • Minimum of seven (7) years of experience in writing for a wider non-scientific audience, editing existing texts and improving their readability. • Professional experience in creating and executing communication plans and easy-to-read written content for online media as well as offline publications, especially for specific user groups. This involves the timely delivery of high-quality communications material. • Knowledge of UNEP’s working mode as well as basic knowledge of chemicals management is an asset.
Languages
Excellent written and oral communication skills. Fluency in written and oral English is required. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is an asset.
