External and Corporate Relations Vice-Presidency (ECR)
 
The mission of External and Corporate Relations (ECR) is to help deliver financial and political support for the World Bank Group, strengthen the Bank Group’s role as a global thought leader in development by enhancing and safeguarding its reputation, and supporting operational teams to achieve country outcomes. ECR manages corporate communications and global engagement with key stakeholders, including media, civil society, foundations, private sector, donor countries, and international organizations, as well as employee engagement. ECR also manages strategic communications for the World Bank’s Regions and Global Practices and leads the management of reputation risk. 
 
Department context:
 
The ECR Editorial and Digital (ECRED) department manages the World Bank’s external corporate presence and reputation through its digital platforms and channels, oversees employee engagement communications and provides insights and impact analysis of our communications work. We play a growing creative and content development role, including producing recorded and livestreamed programming for our own and external channels in support of the Bank’s top priorities.  
 
Note: If the selected candidate is a current Bank Group staff member with a Regular or Open-Ended appointment, s/he will retain his/her Regular or Open-Ended appointment.   Others will be appointed a Term appointment of 4-year duration.
 
Responsibilities 
 
This position exists to support strategic outreach, engagement and advocacy efforts across the World Bank’s social media channels.
 
Campaigns and content
 
•Create and publish content for the World Bank Group’s corporate social media channels, with audiences in the millions for almost every channels.

•Edit and adapt social media content that comes from World Bank Group teams and units, as well as external partners

•Coordinate production and deadlines with multilingual, regional and practice group and other colleagues as needed.

•Draft and produce graphics and videos that are customized for different social media channels and audiences, working closely with colleagues on messaging that supports corporate priorities, ensuring a consistent and clear voice, tone and approach.

•Identify and execute campaigns that invite our audiences to interact and engage with the World Bank (e.g. “user-generated content” campaigns, polls, questions, and expressions of support); coordinate with different units on the development and roll out of these campaigns, including translating concepts and content into local languages

•Support the production of social media content for senior leaders as needed.

•Advise on editorial calendars and workflow, coordaining with other units in the timing and positioning of content across social media channels. 

Risk management

•Proactively monitor World Bank channels for reputational risk issues.

•Produce monitoring reports as needed, as well as support for colleagues designing response and mitigation efforts.

Impact assessment

•Help establish key performance indictors and objectives; review and use metrics reports to improve results and change tactics as needed.

•Produce regular reporting on the impact of key channels and campaigns. 

 

Selection Criteria

 

•Exceptional research, writing and editing skills – editorial judgment; experience writing for social media audiences.

•Ability to make short videos and produce graphics, experience in with Canva, Adobe platform tools, and other video and graphic editing platforms.

•Advanced knowledge and hands-on experience with social media platforms (Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, Instagram, etc.) and demonstrated ability to apply creative ideas for how to engage/interact on them.

•Understanding of social media metrics and measurement tools to gauge impact, results

•Strong judgment, knowledge international development, political economies and related risks.

•Master’s degree with at least two years of relevant experience.

Core competencies

•Communication in International Development – Understanding of international development issues and of the communication needs of key stakeholders, such as bilateral donors, the private sector, foundations, NGOs, and academic institutions.

•Online Content Editing and Drafting – Ability to draft and edit simple online communications products and develop drafts of moderately complex online communications products with minimal supervision. 

•Online Communication Strategy, Planning, and Execution – Practical experience in a full range of online communications approaches, tools and methodologies; can develop drafts of online communication plans and strategies.

•Online Production Tools – Proficiency with graphic design principles, industry-standard applications, and web technologies; strong ability to encode, package, embed, and web-optimize digital multimedia assets.
