JOB DESCRIPTION

Role and responsibilities

The Education Officer will oversee all facets of Education project implementation within the North Area Office, encompassing both hard and soft components of the Education program. The hard component involves overseeing activities such as the light and medium repair of schools, as well as managing the school support cash/voucher program. On the other hand, the soft component entails managing activities such as teacher training through Better Learning Program (BLwhich is the NRC PSS flagship, Youth and Catchups program, and other programs, whether executed directly or in collaboration with local partners.

  • Ensure that projects target beneficiaries most in need of protection and explore and assess new and better ways to assist.
  • Liaise and collaborate with relevant local authorities and other key stakeholders
  • Promote the rights of IDPs/returnees in line with the advocacy strategy
  • Contribute to program development, adjustment, or review
  • Ensure accurate and timely reporting of activities by team members and liaise with relevant colleagues for troubleshooting.

Specific responsibilities

  • Implement education activities under the direction of the Education Project Coordinator.
  • Develop and maintain effective filing systems, both electronic and paper.
  • Oversee education needs assessments at the school/youth level in NRC targeted areas.
  • Develop weekly and monthly work plans following the program plans and logframes.
  • Facilitate processes of school rehabilitation, including close cooperation with the technical Shelter team (school selection, tendering, monitoring visits during the repairing process, and documentation of each stag.
  • Provide support to NRC activities, including training session facilitation, school support, and youth activities, directly and through local partners in line with NRC quality standards.
  • Support the development and contextualization of training packages
  • Independently oversee multiple rounds of education training, including oversight on multiple schools, venues, and trainers.
  • Ensure ongoing monitoring, tracking, and reporting of education projects.
  • Monitor spending and purchase requests as assigned by PM/PC and ensure proper follow up with logistics and field team
  • Regularly travel to the field to support and monitor education and training activities.
  • Oversee procurement and distribution of training materials and provide formal input on school needs.
  • Maintain positive work relations with teachers, headmasters, and DoE representatives.
  • Any other task relevant to the position as requested by the line manager.

  • Experience working in a humanitarian/recovery context
  • Previous experience working in complex and volatile contexts; ability to remain calm and professional in tense situations
  • Minimum 1 year of relevant experience within the field of expertise (Education, social services including psychosocial support/psychology or other relevant field
  • Documented technical competencies related to the position’s responsibilities.
  • Technicalspecific knowledge of the humanitarian sector is an asset.
  • Experience in Psychosocial Support programming in education
  • Experience in conducting training for adults (Teacher training/ Training of trainers is an asseor similar experience
  • Knowledge of the basics of child protection and/or psychosocial support
  • Experience working with youth through recreation and/or vocational training
  • Knowledge of the education system in Ukraine
  • Working knowledge of English both written and verbal
  • Fluent in Ukrainian.
