OVERVIEW OF THE FUNCTIONS OF THE POST

The UNESCO Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Education for Peace and Sustainable Development (MGIEis UNESCO’s first category 1 Research Institute in the Asia and the Pacific region towards developing and promoting new approaches to education for a more peaceful and sustainable world. UNESCO MGIEP believes that youth need more opportunities to participate actively in decisionmaking and have a more significant say in policymaking that will impact their futures. UNESCO MGIEP is seeking a national project officer to support the youth program officer in developing the Institutewide youth strategy and the development of a global network for the YouthDriven Communities of Peace (YoDCO.

Under the overall authority of the Director and direct supervision of the youth program officer of the Institute, the incumbent will serve as an “Associate Project Officer” and will support the Youth Project Officer in managing the youth projects specifically in PVE (Prevention of Violent Extremis, Preventing and Countering Violent Extremism (PCV, and Peacebuilding educational activities. The specific roles and responsibilities will include the following responsible for the following duties:

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Draft different types of documents, i.e., indepth research for youth courses of the institute, concept notes, recommendations, projects, and policy proposals for youth programmes.
  • Design, facilitate, and conduct online and offline workshops for relevant UNESCO MGIEP courses on PVE, peacebuilding, etc., to introduce and familiarize youth with PVE skills.
  • Design and adapt content and context of UNESCO MGIEP PVE courses for youth in different geographies.
  • Conceptualize, design, and facilitate workshops for the Social and Emotional Learning for Youth Waging Peace (SEL for YWand Selfdirected Emotional Learning for Empathy and Kindness (SEEcourses.
  • Support the overall internal coordination of MGIEP’s work on PVE, YoDCOP, and other peacebuilding—peace education activities, including representing MGIEP with UNESCO’s Intersectoral Group on PVE and other internal and external PVE and related groups, meetings, and events when required.
  • Assist the Youth Programme Officer in organizing a yearly TAGe across SDG 16, and identify relevant partners for the event.
  • Raise funds (inkind and financiafor PVE activities.
  • Any other related task as assigned by the Supervisor/Director.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education Qualification:

  • Advanced university degree (equivalent to a Master’in Political Sciences, Peace Building, International Law, and other related studies.

Work Experience

  • Minimum 2 years of relevant work experience working with educators delivering online and inperson education programmes and/or working with education or other social sector ministries in government.
  • Experience of Youth Programmes, Prevention of Violent Extremism, and Youth Peace and Security Agenda and related fields.
  • Substantial experience in programme design, and management.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS

Experience:

  • Professional experience within an international environment/United Nations Agency and experience working in a multidisciplinary team will be an asset.
  • Advanced knowledge in Peace Building, PVE, and related areas (YPS, WP.
  • Familiarity with India’s Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports (MYAprogrammes.
  • Experience in designing online and inperson workshops, facilitating and moderating.

 

Languages:

  • Working knowledge of other UNESCO Official languages (Arabic, Chinese, French, Spanish, and Russia.
