Learning areas
As an intern in the STRATEGIES unit, you will support the project “Support to improve the effectiveness of development assistance in green jobs and skills” (G7 green jobs and skills projec. Working under the Project Manager/Chief Technical Advisor, you will contribute to project management, technical backstopping, and the development of tools to measure and monitor investments in green jobs and skills, with a focus on G7 countries’ development cooperation strategies.
Your involvement will span various functions, including:
Promoting ILO’s work on green employment and lowcarbon transitions through communication and partnerships with G7 countries.
Supporting policy advisory services for genderresponsive employment policies and “green” employment research in the context of environmental transitions.
Assisting in the development of research, capacitybuilding tools, advocacy, and training materials for government institutions, workers’ organizations, and employers on employment policies for climate action and just transitions.
Contributing to the development of a new project concept, including background research and consultations with stakeholders and ILO specialists.
Liaising with donors, external partners, and ILO technical specialists on operational matters in alignment with ILO policies and project strategies.
Assisting in organizing global, regional, and countrylevel events related to the project, STRATEGIES unit, and EMPLAB activities, particularly around the ILO’s just transition resolution.
Supporting technical missions as part of multidisciplinary teams for project implementation and EMPLAB’s objectives on just transitions.
As part of the G7 green jobs project, you will collaborate with global policy and countrylevel specialists within the Employment department and the ILO’s Just Transition network. Your tasks include:
Preparing communications material for the ILO website and project documentation.
Developing content for infographic brochures and technical material such as the Green Employment Diagnostic in multiple languages.
Finalizing layouts and translations of technical documents, ensuring consistency, and providing feedback to consultants.
Summarizing strategies and policy frameworks supporting green jobs and skills from G7 and EU members and updating the 2022 analytical table.
Conducting research on tools for measuring green jobs, such as the taskbased approach.
Assisting with the creation of concept notes and project documents, exploring new research avenues on green jobs.
Supporting the organization of knowledge events and workshops.
Performing project management tasks, including monitoring, reporting, and coordinating activities with partners like GIZ.
Interns are expected to dedicate about 20% of their time to administrative tasks.
Required profile
Education
University degree in environmental policy / economics, employment policy, labour market / development economics, international development, or social sciences.
The candidate should be enrolled in their final year of graduate degree programme or should have completed such a programme no longer than 1 year ago
Experience
- Relevant experience involving analytical work and research in topics relating to environmental policy and/or economics, and/or in labour market or development economics preferably with reference to environmental and climate change.
- Experience in developing communication material and/or training material, and in supporting the organisation of events (training, workshops, campaigns et.
- Knowledge of implementation and monitoring of development cooperation projects, including with international development agencies will be an advantage.
Languages
Excellent spoken and written knowledge of English. Working knowledge of French is desirable.

Good knowledge of Microsoft Office. Knowledge of basic statistical packages is desirable.

Selection process:
Following a first screening by the Human Resources Development Department (HR, hiring departments will shortlist applicants. You will be directly contacted should an internship opportunity match your profile. If you have not been contacted by any department within six months after your application, you can consider that you have not been selected by any department for this roster. If still eligible, you may apply to the next roster.
If shortlisted, you may be contacted by the hiring department for a written test and/or interview. The ILO may use communication technologies such as Skype, Video or teleconference, email, etc for the assessment and evaluation of candidates.
Stipend/Financial compensations:
As an intern in Geneva, you will receive a stipend of 2450 CHF per month from the ILO, unless you receive funding through another institution (for example your university or a foundatio. If you receive partial funding, ILO will cover the difference to ensure you receive 2450 CHF per month. Your travel to Geneva will be at your own expense. In addition to the amounts referred above, each intern shall receive the amount of CHF45 per month, or the equivalent amount in the currency in which the monthly stipend is paid, which is a contribution from the Office towards the cost of medical insurance to cover the period of the internship.
Qualified candidates from nonand underrepresented countries may be eligible for a special fund that provides financial assistance for roundtrip airfare (economy clasin addition to the stipend.
