Department

The ILO RELMEETINGS Department is responsible for conference management services supporting the governing organs of the ILO (International Labour Conference, Governing Body and Regional Meetingand for official relations with Member States. Beyond planning and organizing the sessions of those organs, it renders a wide range of support services to tripartite constituents in preparation for, during and in the follow up to ILO official meetings which are convened under the Governing Body’s authority.
RELMEETINGS is also in charge of planning and production of official documents for the ILO governing organs. It provides language services including translation and interpretation, to enable multilingual communication, broad access to information and active participation of constituents in the democratic governance of the Organization.
RELMEETINGS is composed of a Branch and specific units as follows:
• Official Documents and Language Services Branch (OFFDO, which includes several specialized units
• The Conference Management and Management Support Units
• The Official Relations and Correspondence Unit (RELOF

Learning areas

The intern will learn about the functioning of the key ILO governing organs (i.e. the ILO Governing Body and the International Labour Conference) in the unique tripartite structure of the ILO. The intern will observe the functioning of the ILO Governing Body and will assist with some aspects of the ongoing review of the ILO Governing Body functioning. This may include research on Governing Body decisions and working documents, comparative analysis of best practices in the governing bodies of other international organizations, support with the preparation of Governing Body sessions and any specific meetings, including providing inputs for drafting working papers, presentations and briefing material for Governing Body delegates. The intern will also assist with the session of the Governing Body (March 2025) as well as the International Labour Conference (ILC, June 2025) and provide a wide range of inputs to the conference management team, including drafting summaries of discussions, preparing information materials for delegates and assisting during the event.

Interns should expect to devote 10% to 20% of their time to administrative tasks.

Required profile

Education

Advanced degree in international relations, public international law, political science or another discipline closely related to the functioning of international organizations.

Experience

Knowledge of Microsoft office IT tools, academic publications or projects relevant to international organizations would be an advantage.

Languages

Working (both oral and writteknowledge of at least one of the ILO’s official languages (English, French, Spanis. English: Sound drafting skills.

Competencies

Applicants should be able to adapt to an international, multicultural and multilingual environment, have good communication skills, and be able to work in teams.

Selection process:

Following a first screening by the Human Resources Development Department (HR, hiring departments will shortlist applicants. You will be directly contacted should an internship opportunity match your profile. If you have not been contacted by any department within six months after your application, you can consider that you have not been selected by any department for this roster. If still eligible, you may apply to the next roster.

If shortlisted, you may be contacted by the hiring department for a written test and/or interview. The ILO may use communication technologies such as Skype, Video or teleconference, email, etc for the assessment and evaluation of candidates.

Stipend/Financial compensations:

As an intern in Geneva, you will receive a stipend of 2450 CHF per month from the ILO, unless you receive funding through another institution (for example your university or a foundatio. If you receive partial funding, ILO will cover the difference to ensure you receive 2450 CHF per month. Your travel to Geneva will be at your own expense. In addition to the amounts referred above, each intern shall receive the amount of CHF45 per month, or the equivalent amount in the currency in which the monthly stipend is paid, which is a contribution from the Office towards the cost of medical insurance to cover the period of the internship.

Qualified candidates from nonand underrepresented countries may be eligible for a special fund that provides financial assistance for roundtrip airfare (economy clasin addition to the stipend.
