JOB DESCRIPTION

Background

The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODCountry Office for Pakistan (COPAis tasked with assisting Pakistan through its Country Programme (C20222025 with a focus on illicit trafficking and border management, criminal justice and drug demand reduction and HIV/AIDS. UNODC requires the services of driver to be based in Karachi with regular visits to other cities of Pakistan.

Assignment Objective

The position will provide reliable and safe driving services to UNODC staff ensuring the highest standards of discretion and integrity, sense of responsibility, excellent knowledge of protocol and security issues. The driver also demonstrates a clientoriented approach, courtesy, tact and ability to work with people of different national and cultural backgrounds.

Responsibilities

The driver will undertake the following duties and responsibilities:

  • The driver will perform duties with international and National Staff, collection and delivery of office mail, collection of office supplies from vendors.
  • Ensure day to day maintenance of the assigned vehicle through timely minor repairs, arrangements for major repairs, timely changes of oil, check of tires, brakes, car washing, water, battery etc.
  • Ensure availability of all the required documents/supplies including vehicle insurance, vehicle logs, office directory, map of the city/country, first aid kit, necessary spare parts in the assigned vehicle. Logging official trips, daily mileage, gas consumption, oil changes, greasing, etc.
  • Ensure that all immediate actions required as per UNODC/UNDSS rules and regulations are taken in case of involvement in accidents or other emergency situations.Ensure awareness and updated knowledge of road safety and Security rules and regulation of UN/UNODC/UNDSS related to driving, vehicle maintenance and handling emergency situations.
  • Ensure coordination through emails and phone calls with supervisor, management team and travelers assigned for official duty.

  • Holds a valid LTV driving license.
  • Experience of driving and maintaining armored vehicles
  • Knowledge of driving rules and regulations.
  • Familiarity with Pakistan’s routes and maps.
  • Knowledge and practical experience of operating VHF radios and satellite phones
  • Minimum 2 years of driving experience with safe driving record, preferably with a multinational / international organization; UN experience would be an added advantage.
  • Familiarity with key locations throughout Pakistan especially in Karachi.
  • Good spoken and written Urdu and moderate level of communicating in English.

Planning and Implementation Arrangements

The Driver will need to be based in the UNODC Country Office Pakistan, Karachi to complete the deliverables required under this position. The Driver will report to the Finance and Oversight Manager.

Payment Schedule and Rate

The driver will be issued an SC contract in accordance with United Nations rules and procedures. Payment scale will be determined by UNDP recommended rates for service contract holders.  Travel costs including transportation and DSA for domestic and international travel will be paid by UNODC in accordance with United Nations rules and procedures.
