The Europe, Russia, and Eurasia (ERProgram’s work seeks to develop a deeper understanding of Europe’s political, security, and economic evolution and its future role in the world; geopolitical developments in the circumpolar Arctic; the implications of Russia’s foreign and defense policies for transatlantic security; and political and economic developments in Russia and Eurasia. ERE is also host to the Lillan and Robert D. Stuart Jr. Center in EuroAtlantic and Northern European Studies, focused on the changing geopolitical dynamics and trends in Northern Europe and the Arctic.
The program is seeking a highly organized, detail oriented, responsive, and entrepreneurial individual to work on a range of administrative and substantive activities in a fastpaced and highly collaborative environment. The Program Coordinator and Research Assistant is an integral part of the team and will support both the daytoday operations and substantive goals of the program, focusing on the Europe portfolio and reporting directly to the Program Director. The successful candidate will be expected to play a key role in advancing new initiatives and policy proposals with responsibilities for budget management, outreach, event planning, writing, as well as research and administrative support.
The successful candidate will be a team player, possess excellent communication skills, and have a keen interest in and aptitude for Europe. The Program is aiming for an October 28, 2024, start date.
The salary range for this position is $55,000$60,000 based on experience.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Essential functions may include, but are not limited to the following:
Project Management (75%), including but not limited to:
• Provide direct logistical and administrative support to the Program Director, including calendar management and travel coordination.
• Coordinate planning and execution for public events (including conference, private events, and other activities including highlevel meetings, seminars, and briefings. This includes (but is not limited tliaising with external clients, event scheduling and logistical coordination, managing contacts and mailing lists, drafting and issuing invitations, coordinating with press, working closely with the CSIS Conferencing and AV staff, assisting with VIP guests, and dayof execution.
• Manage the publication process for reports and other digital products.
• Develop, monitor, and review project budgets and annual program budgets.
• Assist in preparation of fundraising proposals and reports to donors.
• Oversee the program’s communications portfolio, including Pardot correspondence, X, or other social media content.
• Liaise with external contacts and other CSIS experts.
• Assist in the planning and execution of the program’s podcast, The Eurofile.
• Manage intern selection process and supervise interns’ daytoday activities and responsibilities.
• Other tasks as assigned by the Director.
Research (25%), potentially including but not limited to:
• Conduct topical and regional research in support of Europe, Russia, and Eurasia program publications and briefings.
• Provide substantive guidance to the program’s network of experts during the publication, drafting, and editing process.
• Draft and edit commentaries and reports as needed.
KNOWLEDGE, EDUCATION, AND EXPERIENCE:
• B.A./B.S. in international relations, economics, political science, or another related field, and strong academic record with a demonstrated focus on Europe
• 1–2 years related research and/or administrative experience. Internships and fellowships may be counted towards this experience.
• Demonstrable and strong research, writing, and communication skills.
• Strong organizational and time management skills, along with an ability to work well independently and in groups.
• Excellent verbal, written, and communication skills, with an ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from constituency groups, media, and governmental entities.
• Be capable of managing multiple projects and priorities simultaneously, with an ability to problem solve in a timely and professional manner.
• Be highly motivated, enthusiastic, detailoriented, organized, and possess a proactive attitude with a willingness to help wherever needed and to work collaboratively with the team.
• Fluency in regional languages is a plus.
