JOB DESCRIPTION

The Nigeria INGO Forum (NIwas established in 2014 to facilitate collaboration among international nongovernmental organizations (INGOin Nigeria for humanitarian, development, and peacebuilding efforts. It serves as a vital platform for information sharing, advocacy, and engagement with authorities, donors, and the UN, ensuring the inclusion of INGO perspectives and those of affected populations in decisionmaking. Governed by a core membership of 59 members and 9 observers, it operates under a Steering Committee comprised of five Country Directors and a Chair, supported by a Secretariat. Since October 2024, the INGO Forum is administratively hosted by Norwegian Refugee Council (NRin Nigeria’s capital city of Abuja as well as Maiduguri.

If you are those people, the Nigeria INGO Forum (NIis looking for an enthusiastic and passionate Communications Technical Assistant to join our team in Abuja, Federal Capital. The Communications Technical Assistant will play a key role in the implementation of the NIF Social Media Strategy and managing NIF’s online and social media channels, besides supporting events organization and development of NIF communications products. the Communications Technical Assistant will be providing support to the NIF Policy and Communication team.

Generic responsibilities

  • Compliance with and adherence to NRC and NIF approved policies and procedures and to and donor policies, guidance, and procedures.
  • Proactive agenda setting; facilitating a space for NGO collaboration; enabling sharing of information and analysis for effective decisionmaking.
  • High level representation of INGO interests in external meetings and planning efforts nationally.
  • Able to appreciate political necessity and policy issues in localization and the application of principles to programming.

Specific responsibilities

  • Implementation of the NIF Social Media Strategy and managing the Social Media Platforms (X (formerly twitte, Facebook and YouTube channe.
  • Creating, uploading content, and regularly monitoring and engaging with audiences on NIF Social Media Channels under the guidance of the Media and Communication Adviser.
  • Assist in the preparation for and branding of NIF events.
  • Drafting, compiling, and editing specific types of NIF communication products such as weekly updates, newsletters, annual reports, etc.
  • Write stories, reports, and minutes of meetings and events.
  • Track projects and media exposures.
  • Support in the development of audiovisual and visual materials, which at times may include traveling to out of station.
  • Organises the clearance, production, and distribution of NIF visibility materials.
  • Performs other relevant duties assigned and preagreed.

Context/Specific skills, knowledge and experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism, Public Relations, Communication, Humanities, English, or any other relevant fields.
  • Demonstrates good knowledge of the use of social media for communication outreaches.
  • Strong verbal, written, and analytical skills.
  • Ability to write clearly and concisely.
  • Strong time management skills and attention to detail are required.
  • Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office, PowerPoint, and other related computer skills.
  • Knowledge of the social media landscape in Nigeria.
  • Professional photography skills are a plus.
  • Ability to work independently, be selfdirected, and demonstrate initiative.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with others.

  • Fluency in English, both written and verbal, and fluency in one or more languages spoken in NorthWest Nigeria, particularly Hausa, is an advantage.
