Background:

NRC has been active in Somalia since 2004 with four area offices in Kismayu, Mogadishu, Garowe and Hargeisa, providing protection and humanitarian assistance to refugees, internally displaced persons and returnees in Somaliland, Puntland, South Central and Jubbaland regions. NRC offers a comprehensive response for returnees and IDPs of high need, addressing their food security, livelihood, shelter, education, ICLA, and water, hygiene and sanitation needs and also responding to emergencies through NRC’s five core competences: Shelter, Education, Food Security and Livelihoods, WASH and Information, Counselling and Legal Assistance (ICL.

Responsibilities:

Schoolbased Child Protection/GBV focal person is to assist in the daytoday activities related to child protection and GBV activities of the Education Projects in Jowhar.

  • Ensure the safety and wellbeing of students.
  • Support the project schools in identification and referral of children in need of specialized services.
  • Ensure learner Wellbeing: Ensure that child protection and GBV policies are effectively implemented within the schools.
  • Training and Awareness: disseminate child rights and duty of care within the schools
  • Reporting Mechanisms: maintain clear reporting procedures for suspected child protection and GBV cases within the schools.
  • Collaboration: Work with area child protection agencies, law enforcement, and community organizations to promote child safety.
  • Monitoring and Evaluation: Regularly assess the effectiveness of child protection and GBV measures and make recommendations for improvements.
  • Data Management: Maintain confidential records of reported cases and ensure data is used responsibly.
  • Advocacy: Advocate for children’s rights and promote a culture of safety within the schools.
  • Parent and Community Engagement: Foster relationships with parents and the community to raise awareness and support for child protection initiatives.
  • Promote the establishment of safe spaces within the school for students to discuss child protection GBVrelated issues.
