Press Media Coordinator – Communications Principal/Lead Specialist

About this position
We are looking for a highly experienced, strategic and knowledgeable Press Media Coordinator. As a Press Media Coordinator, you will oversee, coordinate, and enhance press activities for the IDB, IDB Lab and IDB Invest, ensuring effective communication and a positive public image in English, Spanish and Portuguese in Latin America and the Caribbean (LAand around world.
You will be part of the Communications Division, a key team that provides advice, expertise, and tools for dissemination and communication planning and execution, to position IDB’s brand, work, and development opportunities in the Latin American and Caribbean Region with internal and external partners. In this capacity, you will work closely with the Executive Communication Team; a vibrant group whose main responsibility is to support the communications of the Office of the President, and the IDB’s Executive Team, contribute to develop the Bank’s executive communications priorities, and develop crosscutting messages to help position the IDB Group based on those priorities. The Executive Communications Team is part of the Communications Division.
What you’ll do:
Press Relations:
Develop and sustain relationships with journalists, media outlets, and influencers in Latin America and the Caribbean (LAas well as globally.
Proactively engage with media professionals by organizing roundtables, editorial board visits, press briefings, and other outreach initiatives.
Handle media inquiries, arrange interviews, and coordinate press conferences.
Monitor media coverage of the organization, identifying opportunities and challenges.
Pitch story ideas, press releases, and feature articles to relevant media outlets to secure coverage.
Content Development and Distribution:
Collaborate with the communications team to develop press releases, statements, and other media materials in English, Spanish and Portuguese.
Coordinate with the speechwriter and other content creators to ensure consistency in messaging across all press materials.
Ensures proper and timely distribution of press releases and related communications materials.
Executive Communications:
Provide strategic counsel on press and communication matters to IDB senior management, specialists and stakeholders.
Prepare briefing materials and talking points for IDB spokespeople.
Media Monitoring and Analysis:
Monitor media coverage and report on the effectiveness of media strategies.
Analyze media trends and sentiment, providing insights to shape future campaigns.
Prepare detailed media reports and presentations for senior management.
Events Media Coordination:
Manage media events (press conferences, media briefings, and interviewlogistics orchestrating internal and external resources and relations to ensure effectiveness in the execution of activities.
Ensure that all events are accessible to media personnel and facilitate their needs during such events.
Translation and Localization:
Coordinate and supervise the translation of press materials between English, Spanish and Portuguese
Ensure messaging is culturally sensitive and tailored to local media landscapes.
Crisis Management:
Collaborate with senior leadership and the communications team in developing and implementing crisis communications plans
What you’ll need
Education: You hold a Master’s degree (or equivalent advanced degrein Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, or other fields relevant to the responsibilities of the role.
Experience: Minimum of 10 years of experience in media relations, press coordination, or a related role, with preference for formal PR training/background.
Experience in building a strategic media relations plan and implement multiple media outreach strategies simultaneously.
Knowledge of the news cycle, and traditional and online media outlets.
Proven ability to understand complex research and synthesize it into clear and concise oral and written communications, including for social media.
Proven experience leading teams and coordinating, prioritizing, monitoring and providing feedback on the work of others (with formal and informal reporting lin.
Demonstrated ability to mentor employees and nurture effective work relations.
Established relationships with international media personnel in Latin America, Europe, Asia and Washington, DC. Relationships with development journalists a plus.
Proven proficiency in both English and Spanish with a portfolio that showcases press releases or media communications in both languages.
Familiarity with multilateral development institutions or similar organizations is an advantage.
Languages: Proficiency in Spanish and English, spoken and written, is required. Additional knowledge of French and Portuguese is preferable.

Requirements

Type of contract and duration
International staff contract, 36 months initially, renewable upon mutual agreement.
