In 2024, Sierra Leone continues to face complex human development challenges, carrying post-conflict attributes such as high youth unemployment, corruption, and weak governance. Despite significant progress and ongoing reforms, food insecurity and widespread rural and urban impoverishment persist. According to the 2020 Comprehensive Food Security and Vulnerability Analysis (CFSVA), 57 percent of the population is considered food insecure.
The Government of Japan has consistently been one of the largest and most reliable donors to WFP in Sierra Leone, providing essential support for the implementation of our Country Strategic Plan (2020-2025) aimed at improving food security, enhancing resilience, and supporting sustainable development. Building on the significant contributions from Japan, this assignment aims to strengthen our strategic partnership with the Embassy of Japan, based in Ghana, which plays a key role in managing development assistance for Sierra Leone
