WHY JOIN WFP?
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE OF THE ASSIGNMENT
The World Food Programme (WFP) is the leading humanitarian organization saving lives and changing lives, delivering food assistance in emergencies, and working with communities to improve nutrition and build resilience.
WFP is seeking to build a roster of specialized technical partnerships experts to fill the Technical Experts Network. The Technical Experts Network (TEN) supplies on-demand expertise to WFP Country Offices (COs) to enhance their support to programme countries in designing, financing, and implementing national priority investments for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 2.
Experts deployed through the TEN are expected to focus on 1) scoping investments for SDG 2 projects and engaging with relevant stakeholders to realize these investments; 2) supporting COs to develop and formulate bankable projects; and 3) filling gaps in the implementation and monitoring of programme country and IFI-financed projects.
For this call for proposal, eligible experts are expected to have substantive experience and knowledge of at least one of the following priority topics:
• School-based programmes.
• Social protection.
• Rural and agricultural value chains.
• Food systems (including supply chains, energy and food infrastructure).
• Climate adaptation, resilience, and disaster risk reduction.
Successful candidates will integrate the TEN roster for a duration of 24 months. The contract modality will depend on the duration of assignments, including a combination of home-based consultancy, when-actually-employed consultancies and regular consultancies of up to six months in WFP COs. The contract will specify the duration, location and specific deliverable of each assignment. Experts will work under the administrative supervision of the Multilateral and Programme Country Partnerships division (MPC) and close oversight from WFP’s technical teams and relevant Country Offices and Regional Bureaux.
ACCOUNTABILITIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
In coordination with MPC teams and Regional Bureaux, to support WFP COs and governments in defining and packaging evidence-based investments in relevant themes, with a focus on International Financial Institutions (IFI) financing opportunities. This includes:
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
Education: Graduate degree in international relations, economics, social studies, environmental sciences, logistics and supply chains, agriculture, engineering, etc.
Experience: At least 10 years of relevant experience in financing and managing development projects at country level in area of expertise.
Knowledge and skills: Knowledge of national government financing processes and systems, knowledge of IFI financing processes and systems, project design and formulation, writing, ability to engage with experts and decision-makers from a range of government and non-government institutions, etc
Languages: English. French, Spanish and Arabic desired
Location: Multiple locations.
