JOB DESCRIPTION

Result of Service
● Support coordination for project implementation and stakeholder engagement of the InTex India project, including nodal ministry and relevant line ministries, industry associations; representatives from textile clusters; other organizations working on textiles in India; and other stakeholders as necessary ● Review technical outputs as received from the implementing partner(s) of the InTex India project and provide comments to the implementing partner(s) to strengthen the outputs ● Develop draft background documents for project workshops/meetings/ consultations ● Support the organization of outreach activities; training workshops, seminars, presentations, etc. under the InTex India project ● Develop proceedings of workshops, meetings/ stakeholder consultations, as needed ● Provide logistics and admin support for project workshops, meetings/ stakeholder consultations, as needed ● Contribute to reporting of InTex India, including in the UNSDCF -UNINFO portal ● Support the compilation of UNEP’s inputs on the upcoming joint UN India programme on mainstreaming sustainability/circularity in textile sector in India and its potential alignment with the upcoming National Mission on Sustainable Textiles ● Support the coordination of the Intex India project with the UNEP Textile Initiative’s other workstreams ● Perform other duties as required

Duties and Responsibilities
The UN Environment Programme (UNEP) is the United Nations system’s designated entity for addressing environmental issues at the global and regional level. Its mandate is to coordinate the development of environmental policy consensus by keeping the global environment under review and bringing emerging issues to the attention of governments and the international community for action. UNEP’s Industry and Economy Division works with international governments and non-governmental organizations, national and local governments, business and industry to develop and implement policies, strategies and practices that are cleaner and safer, incorporate environmental costs, use natural resources efficiently, reduce pollution and risks for humans and the environment, and enable the implementation of conventions and international agreements. This position contributes to the UNEP Textile Initiative, which provides strategic leadership and encourages sector-wide collaboration to accelerate a just transition towards a sustainable and circular textile value chain. It has outlined the imperative for the fashion sector to become radically and rapidly transformed to become circular and encapsulates and aligns all UNEP work on textiles to do so. The position will in particular support the project ‘Accelerating the Transition of the Indian Textile Sector towards Circularity’ (InTex India), a four-year UNEP project funded by Denmark and implemented in collaboration with the Government of India’s Ministry of Textiles. The consultant will work with the Consumption and Production Unit, Resources and Markets Branch, Industry and Economy Division. This post is located in UNEP’s India Office in New Delhi. The scope of the consultancy is to support the UNEP Textile Initiative, specifically the InTex India project that is being implemented 2024-2027.
Qualifications/special skills
Master’s degree in one of the following areas: environmental sciences, public administration, business administration or a related technical field Experience in circular economy and green economy development including in the textiles sector in India is required Good organization skills in organizing events and workshops with diverse participants are required Experience in project development and in monitoring and reporting project outputs and activities is required Practical experience in dealing with diverse stakeholders, including national and sub-national governments is an advantage Knowledge of UNEP’s value chain approach and UNEP Textile Initiative is an advantage; Experience in the UN system is an advantage
Languages
Fluency in English and Hindi are required.
