Background and Rationale
The enjoyment of the highest attainable standard of health is one of the fundamental rights of every human being without distinction of race, religion, political belief, economic or social condition. The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), placed gender, equity, and human rights at the center of development efforts, including health, to redress the shortcomings of the MDGs.
The current economic and humanitarian situation further impacts health outcomes for women, girls, and persons with disabilities. The lack of resource ownership and land rights is at the heart of power imbalances between men and women. It affects their awareness of health issues, restrains their ability to access services, misguides policy and programming, and contributes to their increased risks of exposure to sexual and gender-based violence.
In this regard, the Ministry of Health and partners intend to update the existing Clinical management of Rape guidelines in South Sudan to comprehensive national GBV prevention and response guidelines according to WHO guidelines.
