JOB DESCRIPTION

The International Institute of Tropical Agriculture seeks suitable Nigeria nationals for the position below at the Institute’s Headquarters in Ibadan.

Position:  Manager, Talent Management and Engagement

Contract:   3-year renewable contract                                  

Location: Ibadan

DUTIES:

Talent Management

  • Work on continuous harmonization of recruitment and selection processes for global and national talent acquisition, promoting inclusive recruitment.
  • Ensure P&C programs and activities meet with organizational requirements for quality management, health and safety, legal requirement, environmental policies, and general duty of care.
  • Maintain awareness and knowledge of and update on current people management issues and provide suitable interpretation to Head, P&C, directors, managers, and staff.
  • Lead the planning, review, and implementation of the performance management system, ensuring effective annual staff performance appraisal.
  • Coordinate the effective design and application of tools for job evaluation and grading.
  • Contribute to research on trends in compensation and benefits; promote competitive pay philosophy and benefit programs to ensure the institute attracts and retains top talent.
  • Oversee timely analysis of compensation survey results to measure the competitiveness of the institute’s compensation and benefits package and make recommendations as appropriate while ensuring effective implementation of the annual salary review process. Ensure the development and regular updating of the NRS compensation manual and adaptation at country offices.
  • Oversee wellness and wellbeing programs and activities and maintenance of health and safety standards.

 Policy/procedures design and development

  • Lead the development of Human Resource Policy Manual and other workplace policies related to effective people management and positive workplace culture and provide support for adaptation and implementation at IITA country offices (IITA Stations).
  • Effectively facilitate P&C programs and training/awareness on policies, code of conduct, performance management, workplace dignity, etc.
  • Establish and maintain appropriate metrics and systems for measuring the delivery of the various aspects of the talent management function and present regular reports.
  • Collaborate with hosted CGIAR centers and other hosted institutions for common understanding on the management of their local staff by IITA.

Relationship management

  • Develop and maintain an effective partnership with the Staff Associations, ensuring consultation and communication practices are routinely adopted to enable management to make effective decisions and successfully implement policies.
  • Inform and update staff on key business and organizational issues through regular notices and town hall meetings.
  • Recommend employee relations practices necessary to establish a positive employer-employee relationship and promote a high level of employee morale and motivation among NRS.
  • Maintain healthy relations with relevant government agencies and national institutions to ensure compliance with local labor law requirements.
  • Oversee the investigation and resolution of complex employee relations issues, including disciplinary and grievance issues.

Strategic support

  • Work closely with the Head, P&C and other P&C sectional heads to plan, develop and implement strategy for people management in the institute.
  • Support the Head, People & Culture in the timely preparation of submissions to the Senior Management Team and to the Board of Trustees and in the effective implementation of Board and Management decisions.
  • Lead the compilation, design, and production of P&C monthly reports.

Engagement, Diversity and Inclusion in the Workplace

  • Collaborate with people leaders (line managers) to promote a positive work culture and an enabling/engaging environment in the institute.
  • Contribute to the successful planning, design and delivery of all regular and new P&C programs and activities that promote organizational effectiveness, including leadership and management development programs, team building programs, and wellness and wellbeing programs.
  • Lead the GDI support team and work closely with the Head, People and Culture on Gender equity, Diversity and Inclusion (GDI) in the workplace delivering the following responsibilities:
  • Develop the institute’s GDI Strategy and Action Plan in alignment with the CGIAR GDI Framework and Action Plan and track implementation.
  • Manage and coordinate efforts, programs, events, and activities relating to advancing GDI in the workplace.
  • Work collaboratively with the CGIAR GDI Function in developing and adapting materials and engage with internal and external stakeholders toward the successful implementation of the institute’s GDI Action Plan.
  • Support the design and administration of staff engagement surveys, analyzing feedback and developing remedial actions in collaboration with the consultants.

Other assignments

  • Prepare People and Culture annual budget and support the people budgeting component of the institute’s annual budget
  • Contribute to multiple People and Culture initiatives and deliverables.
  • Contribute to proposal development as may be required by PDAU from time to time.
  • Lead/participate in P&C and inter-unit committees and task teams.
  • Perform other job-related duties as may be assigned by the supervisor and the institute’s leadership.

Requirements

Master’s degree in Industrial Relations, Human Resource Management, or related field with a minimum of fifteen (15) years’ experience performing similar role in a well-structured environment with Professional membership of CIPM, CIPD, SHRM or any other internationally recognized body related to people management.

  • Have in-depth knowledge of several functional areas of HRM.
  • Have excellent communication skills, both written and verbal including ability to communicate difficult/sensitive information tactfully.
  • Demonstrable emotional intelligence including ability to work collaboratively, influence and build partnerships.
  • Have exceptional leadership skills.
  • Have the ability to manage confidential information.
  • Be fluent in English language with working knowledge of French and be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
